You don't need professional quality for a brand new beginner but if you can rent a high quality student one it makes a world of difference. My experience is mostly with woodwinds (have taught flute, sax, clarinet) but sometimes a cheap Amazon one won't even make sound even with a good player because the key alignment is off. And listening to a crappy violin is just torture. It might matter less for other instruments.[/quote]
