Why are people a$$holes to new restaurants?

Help me understand. I'm not a restaurant owner so no horse in this race, but I went to a brand new restaurant and noticed that someone already gave them a 1 star review as their second review! Who does that?

So our table of 3 without being asked to wrote them 3 5 star reviews because we had a great time and to be supportive. That person? Saw our reviews and had their date write another 1 star review.

Like how much of a sh&tty person do you have to be?

Trying to a comped meal from the owner.

The best thing restaurant owners or managers should do is respond to the customer complaints in writing in same place.
The answer is you can’t control people but you can control how you handle them.

Maybe it was their special treat and horribly disappointing.

I mean, if they had a bad experience, they had a bad experience. That doesn't make them shitty people. We had a terrible experience at a new restaurant in their second week. Service was incredibly slow, they forgot our drinks, they were out of two dishes we ordered (it was only 7pm!), but I didn't write them a bad review because the food was good and we hope to go back in a month or two in the hopes that their service has gotten better (reminder to waitstaff: stop flirting and do your jobs).

How do you know who wrote what review online? Your post makes no sense.

Their names are on the reviews on Google. The boyfriend wrote the review 2 days after they visited (according to the first review) and a few hours after we wrote all of our positive reviews. I mean it seems very intentional and vindictive.

The boyfriend gave a 1 star review and said it was because the manager didn't come over to say hello to him and the food was expensive...super weird review. Especially since you can see the prices before going to the restaurant.

Our food was great, fast service, etc. But even if theirs wasn't why try to ruin a new business?

Maybe rival restaurants? Who knows.

My pet peeve is new restaurants that charge full price, but deliver “sorry, we’re still ironing out the kinks” food and service.

If you’re going to pretend you’re a full-fledged, grown-up establishment when you give me the bill, you need to be sure the rest of the experience lives up to that.

You seem way too invested in this for someone who doesn’t have a dog in this fight. Why are you visiting their reviews so often and giving this so much headspace?

I care about our local businesses. This is a brand new restaurant in a space that's been unoccupied for about 8 years.

How do you know another review was the boyfriend of their first review? A married couple would have the same last name but why do you assume this other bad review was affiliated with the first?

They referred to themselves as boyfriend / girlfriend in the review. I also am friends with his ex wife but don't know him personally.

Anyone who leaves a bad review for a small business is a vindictive d*ck. If they really want to resolution they would talk to the manager or owner. Thats being a good customer instead of a petty bully.
