Did this turn out to be accurate?
Child 1 was 3 feet at 2, so by estimates should be 6foot. Child 2 was 2 feet 8 inches so by estimates should be 5’4 (boy). At the time on the curve he was about 10 percent for a while. Now he’s 8 and trending about 80 percentile. I was wondering if you would still expect him to be around 5’4? |
| Didn't for me a female. I was supposed to be 6 feet ended up 5-7 |
|
You would? Even if he’s currently at the 80’percentile for height? He keeps trending up as he gets older. He is 8. Dad is 6’2 and I am 5’4. |
| No, thank goodness. Son is only 5'7" now but doing that approach, he would have wound up a lot shorter!!! |
| Pretty much ran true for my 4 kiddos. |
| I don't recall my kids' heights to see if that panned out but the whole add up parents' heights and divide by two, then add 4" for son and subtract 4" for daughter was accurate. However it was accurate in that there's a 4" + and - so my son was indeed 4" taller than the estimate. |
| Interesting. My kid is only 10 but I just looked up her 2 yr old height and if she winds up doubling it, she would be exactly my height as an adult (5'6" woman). But I kind of expect her to be taller than me because she's had dramatic growth spurts. She's currently just shy of 5'. There are a lot of tall genes in my family -- I have many aunts, uncles, and cousins at or above 6', of both genders, so I wouldn't be shocked if she was taller. |

Our doctor has not mentioned this. He’s taller than 8/10 boys his age currently at 8. Should we really be concerned? |
| I wish we could ben these obsessive height threads. |

I’ve read that it is slightly more accurate for boys than girls. My two boys both got slightly taller than the prediction but I would say within the margin of error.
When my mom did it, my sister was predicted to be 5’10 and I was supposed to be 5’8. I am 5’1 and my sister is 4’11, so I would not say that is within a reasonable margin of error. |
| Since the vast majority of adults are between 5' and 6' tall and the vast majority of 2 year olds are between 2'6" and 3' tall, the method "works" within a large margin of error. But this doubling your height at 2 rule is more like the rule that says when the clouds are gray and you feel a raindrop on your head it's going to rain soon. |
He’s 8 years old and in the 80% tile. Stop wasting doctor’s valuable time with vanity issues. The child is healthy. |
