I’m ordering Rocklands bbq for dinner for 4 college students, 3 boys/1 girl. They are active kids.
What do you suggest for quantities? I plan to order chicken and brisket by the pound, ribs (sold by the rack or half rack), and some sides (which are sold by the pint or quart). Thanks. |
| Thats a ton of food for 4 people! We usually get a half rack of ribs and 1 lb of anther meat for 4 people plus 1 small side each that we share. They don't have a ton of healthy options so the sides are heavy. They also have cornbread. |
I didn’t list quantities, as that is what I am seeking advice on
For reference, Rocklands’ own suggestion for “family of 4” is 2 lbs of meat and 3 pints of sides - I am not sure if that will be enough for 4 college students (vs mom/dad/2 kids) so is why I thought I’d add ribs, and maybe bump side dish quantities? - OP |
I have teen/college aged athletes and a DH who loves BBQ. For the 4 of us, I’d get 2 lbs of chicken, 1-2 lbs of brisket, a full rack of ribs, 3 pints of sides (maybe a quart if there were any we particularly liked, and cornbread. We might or might not end up with leftovers on any given day. If so, I’d use the leftovers for tacos later in the week. |
| I love Rocklands. The food is pretty heavy and I think their suggested quantity for 4 people is accurate—if anything, it’s too much food for my family of 4. I would think it would be accurate for college students. |
| I’d get 2 lb chicken, 2 lb brisket or pulled pork, a full rack of ribs, 3-4 sides, and grab a pack of rolls and some throwaway containers to send them home with leftovers. |
You think each kid is going to eat a lb of meat plus heavy sides? Gross. |
throwaway containers to send them home with leftovers |
| Is OP providing dinner and leftovers or just dinner? |
My college kids can easily pack away a pound of meat each but wouldn’t eat much of the sides. They are strong and athletic and not gross like you. |
Either you've never had college age kids or your poor children probably didn't get proper nutrition until they were finally out from under your emaciated WASPy gaze. |
| 1lb of meat + 1 quart of sides per kid is what I'd order. They probably won't eat it all but obviously better to have leftovers than for kids to leave hungry. |
| Call them and ask. That is what I do. They can give suggestions on quantities. And then I would order a little bit more. |
Def not enough!!! I would get 1 lbs brisket and 1 lb of another meat. A rack of ribs, medium sides of potato salad, mac n cheese and 8 rolls for sandwiches. |
| Just order more than you think & if it's too much, you have leftovers. |
