| First, I understand that the older the kids get and the higher the level...the more serious soccer becomes in terms of discipline, expectations, etc. But across the board, at increasingly younger ages, finding that soccer isn't near as enjoyable as it should be. The kids are constantly screamed at with little to no encouragement. You can say that it depends on the coach, and it definitely does. But there seems to be a trend toward more angry coaches who don't really care about the kids' development and are consumed by winning for their own resumes. Put the fun back in soccer. It can be serious but still be fun. |

Welcome to club soccer mate. There are clubs that are family friendly and dont yell. With nice facilities Seek them out.
But it is like a job for the DCs. Especially lately with all of the posturing and change. Hang in there!! |
Sterling = true soccer club Loudoun = busine$$ Revolution = busine$$ VDA = true soccer club turning business LFC = genuine passion club PWSI = started genuine, became a money grab FVU = lol ODFC = genuine but extremely disorganized club Doradus = lol |
winning is pretty fun |
Agree with this and I find it troubling. I went high level D1 in a different sport 25 years ago. It didn’t not feel like a job until halfway through high school and then truly was my job in college because that’s what was paying my out of state tutition plus room and board. I knew I had to perform or it would go away. My oldest is 11 playing at the “pre” level (top team for their age group) and I think the pressure on these kids is crazy. We left a club due to a coach who was so negative and making the kids feel like they sucked if they made a mistake. Some of the parents of other kids at this level are doing so much to try to position their kids to be on certain teams, guest playing, invited to special things. We are over here just hoping our kid can make the high school team in a few years. I don’t see any upside to all the pushing considering the odds of playing in college are slim to none even for the true standouts (which mine is not). I hope it settles down after next year when everyone can really see if their kid has “it” or not. This age feels like a lot of hopefully aka delusional parents not understanding that true cream rises to the top regardless of how much angling the parents do. |
It's already settling down the first year of 11 v 11. Absolutely bonkers what parents/coaches/teams/kids are doing before this, but maybe in a strange way it helps that those who made it on their own are way ahead of those with "help". |
No matter how much your fed job is paying you my son and daughter will be balling harder despite our poor destitute circumstance. Who’s the clown? |
I GUARANTEE you did not club shop and are only willing to go to certain clubs. This perspective is total BS and is most prevalent at the clubs that have the most appeal to DCUMers. Do more homework and don’t disparage an entire industry. |
what about tsj & asa |
| There are definitely clubs that care about kids. You really can’t lump them all together. The issue is if you want to play on a team that is “desirable” or “winning” you’ll have less options. DS played for a small club that has gotten some hate here but it was all about the kids and they didn’t pressure kids to miss a family trip, birthday or school event. The TD director and coach were the kindest. I would have had DS stay forever but DS wasn’t happy because he lived and breathed soccer and wanted his teammates to show up no matter what and he really wanted to win. Then he moved to a large club that is a bit of a drive outside DC and played on a “winning” team. The coaches there were also kind. When DS made a mistake that cost his team the win and was upset, his coach consoled him. He never lectured the kids when they didn’t win. He motivated them to play their best. He allowed the kids to take risks in games. It was an excellent environment and I wish he was still there. |
| I like that there are different competition levels so you can choose the one that matches what you want. If your kid is on the top team then you should expect and want it competitive which means more pressure and commitment. If you want something with less pressure choose one of the lower level teams. Just don’t choose a level that doesn’t match what you want, and then complain about the pressure or the cost or the travel. You have the power to choose your own adventure. |
| Ba5tards like revolution people dont help. Praying for a safe extinction to grifters like them |
Both genuine true soccer clubs - TSJ working their way after getting gutted by the German sellout and Pupp dude. And still better place than Revolution and VDA in the long run. VDA = Loudoun of south LoCo Asa also true genuine clubs fighting egos and politix |
pwc parents aren’t going for that fysa.. VDA is not a loudoun club |
Count the number of incoming players into VDA displacing others from LoCo and what the PP is saying makes sense. VDA using LP makes sense in terms of commute for LoCo families, if BP begins having more sessions at LP vs Howison then you will see whats happening. All of this is speculation but in theory the whole idea behind any and all of these clubs has gone by the wayside, likely due to just the area being so saturated with clubs and not enough players and coaches to fill these 'high level' teams, leading to people going way out of their way to join the flavor of the season teams. |
