| At which gpa and SAT score is VA Tech a safety/reach school ? ( with rigorous courses from non TJ magnet school. ) |
| check your school's admissions data for previous years |
| I really wouldn’t call VT a safety for anyone. A safety is a school that admits over 80% of applicants. I can’t think of a major even at VT that does that. |
| VT is notorious for making wonky decisions, so never a safety. |
As stated numerous times on this board, the likelihood of admission completely depends on the major to which a student applies. It is MUCH harder to get into engineering versus, for example, consumer sciences. |
It completely depends on the major. I have a NMF with a 3.97uw and high rigor who wants to major in English. I expect her to get in, but I still wouldn't call it a safety |
Yes AND the rely heavily on several very subjective essay interpretations which now also are being read by AI. Good luck LOL |
no one is a NMF yet, they haven't even announced NMSF |
Sorry, you are correct. I meant a probable NMF (since she is a probable NMSF and almost all NMSF become NMF) |
I have an English major at VT who is having a phenomenal experience. Highly recommend. Good luck to your DC. |
Op here Ds wants to be a Physics major/Cs minor. |
VT publishes acceptance rate by major. It looks like physics hovers in the 80% range over the last few years with one year having a 95% acceptance rate and 64% acceptance rate last year. Math seems to also have a high acceptance rate and is in the same college, which I think makes for an easy major change. You can find the data here https://udc.vt.edu/irdata/data/students/admission/index#college |
| DS was waitlisted with a weighted 4.0 and test optional. He was eventually accepted but had to decline because of the out of state cost. |
What was his major listed? |
| IDK. My daughter goes to what is considered a "middle-tier" Fairfax county high school. In her friend group, everyone who applied to VA Tech got in, literally everyone. These are smart, hardworking kids, but not superstars. |
