I know this question has probably been asked many times before, but I wanted to reach out specifically to parents whose kids were admitted to a top 25 schools, either in the most recent admissions cycle or in the past few years.
Which college consultant (if any) did you use, and how was your experience? Please, no snark , just hoping for genuine, firsthand recommendations or feedback from those who have real information to share. Thanks in advance! |
| My daughter is about to start her freshman year at a top 25 school. She/we didn’t use any college consultant. |
| We used the one in our school, and that’s it. |
| Search feature |
| Then why do people use a college consultant and claim it helped their kid get into a top school. |
? |
| We did not use one. |
Same. |
Same here. |
| You will not get an honest answer. Like asking did anyone use ChatGPT to write their essays, or did parents help set up non-profits and secure research/intern positions. Sure, it's an anonymous board, but parents have a tendency for "we did it all on our own!" |

Yale. Unhooked.
No consultant (but I do listen to a lot of podcasts!) |
| DC entering sophomore year in Top25. Did not use outside college counselor. DC is youngest of 3 so was familiar with application process. DC had good stats/EC. |
I believe everyone who has posted so far on this thread that they didn’t use a counselor is being honest. |
| No consultant. DD is incredibly her second year. The word on the street when she was applying was that the consultants were a huge waste of money. |
| I think it's likely that the large majority of students currently attending top 25 colleges did not use private admissions consultants. A quick search on the web reports that perhaps 25 percent of all college students did. But who knows the real number. |
