Influencers child drowned while husband watched NBA

Anonymous
Parenting influencers 3 yo drowned in the family pool while husband watched NBA playoffs. She wasn’t home. Police recommended a child abuse charge based on video footage of the child being alone by or in the pool for 9 minutes but prosecutors declined because they didn’t think they could get a conviction.

Family lawyered up immediately when it happened and filed all sorts of motions to seal information, no doubt because of this. Judge sealed some but eventually the police report was released with redactions. Dad was betting and watching NBA playoffs when he was responsible for this child. No fence around the pool and the safety cover was not in use.

(I posted about this before, but it was apparently in the wrong forum so reposting it here.)

I personally think he should be charged like the AZ car dad. Watching sports/playing video games instead of watching the child. Same state (AZ). And I do think the marriage is probably over.

He should be charged. I hate the term "influencer".

They named their child Trigger??

Why wouldn't they get a conviction?

Maybe because of the legal culture in Arizona?

We have another thread about this already.

OP is a broken record.

Regarding the backyard pool, initially I was so dumfounded that they have no safety fence or cover, but then I thought about how they are influencers and I would bet you anything the reason why is that the yard looks better in photos when the pool is visible and unobstructed.

Of the 9 minutes the child was outside before his dad came looking for him, he was in the pool for 7 minutes. You have to wonder what might have happened if the child had been found after being in the pool for one or two minutes. Still terrible, but they might have been able to avoid the very worst.

The dad originally claimed the child “regularly” played outside and that he (the dad) was watching from inside. But according to police Dad couldn’t accurately describe one thing the child did once outside, and in fact the child had tripped over a chair and fallen into the pool within 2 minutes of being out there. If the pool had just been fenced or covered, this wouldn’t have happened. Or if Dad wasn’t a gambling addict.

Yes this a perfect example for the thread about recognizing repeat posters. How can anyone not see that the OP is the same for both threads?

(Although the OP admitted to reposting so this isn't some gotcha or anything.)

Sadly this reminds me of the new
Wally Lamb book, just trade alcoholism for a gambling addiction.

Most people do not understand that it takes a minute for a child to drown in sometimes very shallow water. I was in the kiddie pool with toddler DD one day, turned my back on her for a few seconds to deal with her older brother, and when I turned around, she was face down in the water. I had the fright of my life. I was RIGHT THERE. She was fine, having just fallen (or maybe tried to swim?), but another minute and she would have been dead.

My BIL had the exact situation happen to him with his 3rd kid. Also right there next to his kid, also turned his back for a few second to talk to someone, kid face down in the water.

Doesn't change the fact that influencers are shits and that this parent should be prosecuted for at least neglect.

I freaking hope the marriage is over.

And yeah, this guy should face charges. Shame on the prosecutors for dropping this. If I was the mom I think I'd kill him myself and take my chances with a jury trial.

I’m from Arizona where lots of people have pools and it’s criminal to have small children and not have a fence around the pool. Back in the 80s that was common but for the last 20 years, I don’t know anyone that didn’t put a safety fence around the pool. Also 3 is too young to be playing outside by themselves. 5 would be fine if there is a safety fence maybe. We also get rattlesnakes, scriprios and tarantulas in the back yards in Arizona so you have to think of that as well.
