What island is going to change my life and make me never want to take another mainland USA beach trip again?

Name one. Doesn’t matter the country or territory, just send me down a rabbit hole.

Galapagos. But don’t stay on the islands; instead, take one of the boats that has about 25 passengers. It’s small enough to have a ton of personal interactions with the guides but big enough to avoid sea sickness. Seeing the Galapagos totally changed me—I fell in love with earth and the ocean in a way I hadn’t expected. Truly beautiful! Worth the $$.

Once I visited Hawaii 25 years ago, any mainland beach vacation was just ok. We were lucky enough to be able to move to Maui 7 years ago.

+1. I haven't been to St. John but it's on my list to try.

I went to Turks & Caicos 15 years ago and felt this way, but it doesn't seem as safe any more.

Tanna in Vanuatu. The Marquesas - all of them. Vava'u in Tonga. For an atoll, probably Fakarava - for the sharks.

All very good places.

By the end of my trip to the Exumas, I was looking at property listings there. Seriously, it is truly paradise.
