Coworker said her family uses each others toothbrushes

My stomach turned - I’m sorry but how in any way is this acceptable?!

She said she has tried to break the habit but her teens still use hers and her husbands or grab whoever has a toothbrush out and available.

I’m struggling to ask this but … is this common?

This happens sometimes like if someone forgets on vacation but it wouldn’t occur to me to be more than mildly annoyed about it.

OP, one thing I’ve learned from dcum is that some people live with WAY, WAY higher levels of stress and care about germs and contamination than others.

We could argue back and forth about logic and science but ultimately people are just different and make different choices. Row your own boat.

That is disgusting. I sanitize my toothbrush between uses. Does this family? Even if they do, still nasty.

Hubby and I share if someone forgets theirs on vacation.

eh. I don't care. We hare a bathroom and have 4 toothbrushes in a cup and I just grab one because I can never remember what color was supposed to be mine. I also drink water after my kids and eat food after them. They are getting older and so now less inclined to do any of the above. They have their own tooth electric brushes now and daughter especially doesn't want her brother to use hers.

I get that people will think it's gross so I'd never tell a coworker, but your coworker isn't the only one.

You can't remember which toothbrush is yours?

You think that sharing food is like sharing a toothbrush?

OP, this is a good reminder that people are gross. Some more than others.

Yes, its a continuum. Both me and my husband grew up with hippie parents, so we are on the very concerned about germs side of the continuum. People I know who camp and hike a lot or spent years in developing countries are even further than us.

I do like DCUM for teaching me about other people's habits. We don't talk often about these things. Like washcloths. etc. It is all interesting to me. But I'm happy with how I live and not judgy about other people.

My grandma found it gross to put cartons on the table. She'd pour milk and juice into a class carafe. Interesting.

Gross. No, this is not normal. They must all have chronic strep by now. Nasty.

Nope. I don't care if we are on vacation; we are going to the store ASAP to buy one. That is so disgusting.
