I want to buy a nice bag (or provide a gift certificate to a bag company) for a 27 year old who is graduating from a masters program. She is a fashionable Black woman, but not super fancy since she’s been a broke graduate student. I am thinking of something in the $200 range.
Please recommend brands or specific bags that would work for this age. |
$200? Maybe look at Target.
I don’t think this is a realistic budget. 500-700 is the starting point for this.

$200 is going to be a challenge. Cuyana has some nice totes for under $300.

If you are willing to go up to $300 you can get something nice from Cole Haan, HOBO, or Cuyana as mentioned above.
Portland Leather has good items but not sure if they’re stylish enough.
Another vote for Cuyana.
You’ll need to stretch your range a little but this one is nice: https://www.loandsons.com/products/trinity-recycled-smooth-leather-black-gold-camel?variant=41363776602208
A bag is something people often have quirks about specific features they like. Why not take her shopping so she can try them out?
I would look at Mango, J Crew and Anthropology - you may find something close to this price point that is nice looking and stylish .
Also look at Quince!

It will really depend on her first job and what she is required to carry (eg size of laptop etc). Also she may be more in need of other work items, depending on her job.
I think a good idea might be to get her a 200 dollar gift card to somewhere like Aritzia, Nordstrom, or Free People. |
