Copa Virginia Villareal Tournament

We have heard a rumo our team is playing in this instead of the usual OBGC on Labor day weekend.

It seems to be a brand new tournament, but the market here is already saturated that weekend with obgc and vrsc's tournament.

Does anyone know what clubs are playing in this?

No idea as they do not have any applied teams list or any details.

Not a fan of the Villareal execution here in VA but the tournament will grab the parents who think Villareal is going to scout them at this tournament on Labor Day.

Smarter move would have been the 12/6 weekend slot that Celtic just picked up from newly relegated Southampton.

The new club admin for Herndon is also listed as the manager for this Villareal tournament, but Herndon is not sponsoring the tournament.

However, Herndon is putting a bunch of their teams into this tournament instead of the other, established tournaments they usually play in pre-season.

Wonder what financial incentives are going on. Its a little odd.

As a former Villarreal VA parent I worry about if their leadership is organized enough or has enough staff to host a tourney.

Well all the other teams are playing elsewhere so it might be a small tournament

They may be teaming up with some of their partners in the FVU alliance to run it if Herndon is already committed. So one could assume some of those teams might also participate at certain age groups.

DS’s Herndon team is playing. It feels hastily put together and not well marketed so I’m wondering how it will go. It’s a shame because at his age showcases are really important.

I don't see how doing this random new tournament instead of the usual, well-run tournaments is fair to the Herndon players. We were charged double the team/tournament fee compared to last year, too and apparently our team's only tournaments this fall total will be Herndon's own tournament and this one. We did four tournaments last year too.

I find it strange that our club manager-who decided the tournaments for all the teams this year-- is the director for this tournament which is not run by Herndon and yet somehow he decided this tournament was the best choice for all our teams.

I asked about the team fees doubling(which is explained as a fee that covers tournament registration and coach travel expenses) going up and did not get a satisfactory answer. Our team is only doing four local tournaments, same as last year. How is the "team fee" exactly the same across many different teams ($550) if some teams are doing different tournaments and some where coaches travel, and some are all local--and there is not the exact same number of players per team?

It feels like a money grab by Herndon.
