Skidmore vs Connecticut College?

Looking for views on the two schools. Student is an athlete being recruited at both. Loves the cold winters (he does not get that from me), so that area is where he's focused his search. Thoughts on how to choose between the two?

Skidmore is FAR better situated.

Skidmore is colder. But I think the issue is sports and whether you want to be in NESCAC.

Considering CC also for a sport. Seems like a nice school and, if sports are part of the equation, can't beat the NESCAC for D3 (Skidmore doesn't really have a team in DC's sport so no input there). I do worry that CC does not have any recognition in this (DMV) part of the country.

Both good schools, Skidmore is stronger for rowing and ranked a bit higher academically but I would consider Conn College in the same bucket academically so would focus on fit. Skidmore is quite Artsy and Conn College is more pre-professional in my experience. YOur kid has a couple of good choices so congrats!

Skidmore is more artsy and Conn more preppy. Saratoga Springs, NY is also livelier and has more to offer than New London, CT. Definitely visit to get more of a feel for the vibes!

I would MUCH rather spend 4 years in Saratoga than New London. I also do not like the Conn College campus. They are pretty equal academically, maybe Skidmore considered slightly stronger with some better name recognition.

Saratoga Springs is absolutely beautiful in the wintertime. It’s got that perfect christmas-y feel. Skidmore is less preppy as PPs have noted. You can’t go wrong with either of these, but they have different feels.

My kid is an athlete at CC. I don’t really get the preppy reputation. Both schools have a lot of artsy kids. They’re both good schools and I think your kid should go with whichever feels right. I will say the NESCAC is a great conference to be in. Coastal CT is nice and my kid has enjoyed being fairly close to both NY and Boston. But Saratoga Springs is also great.
