Great schools ratings

I noticed last night that many of the ffx county schools that are highly ranked are now rated lower, and some of the lower ones are now rated higher. Not massive changes, but 9s to 8s, and 2s up to 3s.

Curious if anybody has insight as to why? It's summer, so no new test scores or anything.
I know people have different feelings about the ratings themselves, but that's not my question.

The test scores are released over summer.

Great Schools is stupid. I feel that we need a sticky that says this. Can we lock the thread now?

Just because they don't weight factors the same way you do when calculating scores doesn't make them stupid. Do some reading to understand how the score is calculated and adjust according to your values. Not every family has the same needs from a public school.

If you change the filter to rank by test score rating, it would be more accurate.

The academic progress rating is very relative. A good school might not make good progress because its baseline was very high to begin with.

The great school rating is a composite of different factors, it makes no sense.

DP. They bounce around too much and too often to be useful any longer. And many very
good schools with a mix of higher performing and lower performing kids get slammed while schools that are either entirely wealthy or slightly above average get rewarded.

The same year USNWR rated Thomas Jefferson (TJ) as the number one high school in the United States, Great Schools downgraded TJ from a 10 to a 9.

The main difference in great schools rating is the equity score.

It looks like they did away with the equity score. It only says academic progress and test scores are used.
