When are high school counselors back to work?

I thought they worked year round but I guess not.

IDK but a warning if this has to do with college admissions it will be very hard to get anything done. When schools starts, they will be unavailable because, well, it's the start of the school year. It's always something.

What do you need/hope for exactly?

Counselors are not 12 month employees. They are on a 204 day contract. I believe they come back July 31st.

I have a kid registered for a honors level class and I want to drop her down to regular. I emailed earlier in July but counselor was not in for the year yet. Will that be a problem?

I sent an email and the auto reply said July 31st. It had specific dates and the process for switching/dropping classes, requesting transcripts etc for that school.

If you are at Westfield good luck. We just received an email today that my DS who is a senior will be getting a new guidance counselor(senior year!) He is on counselor number three at Westfield and all three years there have been issues with scheduling. The excuse is always the school is too big....my two older sons did not experience the lack of care we now see when they were at Westfield- seems to be an admin issue. Stay on top of them.

I would not depend on anyone in FCPS for anything-it's sad but true.

Or it could be a reflection on the loss of staff across the country, not just teacher teachers, but all staff.

I'm sure it doesn't help but Westfield has a we don't care attitude and it comes from admin. I'm sure it's how they treat their staff too.

Ugh. We found out last June that the counselor for our rising then senior was leaving. He was crushed. I was so concerned.
BUT the new counselor who started last August was even better! She jumped right in and things went very smoothly.
Good luck!!!

+1 from a parent of a rising junior there. We are annoyed. His counselor from 9th and 10th grade was great. I wish they could've figured out some kind of grandfathering system for at least the 11th and 12th graders.
