HELP! Snoring ruining my marriage

Anonymous
I have a doctors appointment to have my snoring evaluated. It’s a ways away. I’m the meantime DH is fed up with me and sleeping in another room. Any suggestions for over the counter remedies?

Get a cpap.

Some dentists do night guards. Do not just get one online or CVS. You will ruin your teeth.

If you have the spare bedroom space, why not sleep in separate bedrooms anyway? More restful. Sleeping in the same bed with someone else is not healthy sleeping for many reasons.

Lofta, look them up, at home sleep test, if you qualify you can buy a CPAP from them.

FYI, I'm thin and I snore. Weight gain can cause it or make it worse, but UK just a lifelong side sleeper whose mouth will pull open if I roll to my back in my sleep, and that's enough to do it.

I don't drink either.

Buying a side sleeper pillow has helped me, as it makes it less likely I'll land in my back.

I sleep with loop ear plugs in to not hear snoring. They’re the best!!

Are you a normal weight? Sometimes just losing weight can help a lot.

I snore but also sleep poorly waking up after 2-3 hours and then drifting in and out. I’ve just started working with a group called Advent who did an initial exam (including a not so fun nasal study) and tonight I start a two night in home study using an app and a wrist and finger gadget to measure my sleep. In a couple of weeks they will do a CT scan. I’m clueless at this point about the effectiveness. My wife falls asleep very quickly but she then often snores which means I can’t fall asleep so we often end up in different rooms. It’s far from ideal but it is what it is.

Used to snore due to a severely deviated septum. Nose strips and a mouth guard helped. As did sleeping on my side or stomach. Eventually got surgery to fix it and no more snoring!

It's fine to sleep in separate rooms. But you can sleep propped up on pillows (like if you were congested), make an effort to sleep on your side, and be sure not to drink alcohol.

Sleeping in separate rooms is the best! We try to start in the same room many nights, but sleep separately. We sleep so much better when we're not hearing each other snore or toss and turn. Plus, I like to read on my Kindle in peace to fall asleep, but he complains about the lights even when it's as dim as it will go.

How is your weight?

My mom always snored terribly. She started sleeping with a tab of medical tape on her mouth and the snoring stopped.

SnorerRx fits me very well and has not damaged my teeth. I've used it for many years. Some other over the counter guards have been less effective or less comfortable, even painful.

I also got a dentist-fitted version for five times as much but found it to be less durable and no more effect than SnoreRx.
