What does this actually mean? They previously sent an email "our class complete, we're not going to the waitlist anymore" and now they sent emails taking kids off?
If this was so, was everyone actually sent the first email or had they retained some kids on an extended waitlist?

According to Reddit A2C, some “small group” of students received texts and emails yesterday (7/29) evening ET saying they are reopening the waitlist and to reply w/in 24 hours if they’re interested in receiving a quick reply.

Sounds to me like Duke is trying to get ahead of what will be some movement across the board on waitlists in the next few days/week.

They must have had enough defer already.

I’m not 100% sure this is real. But I could be wrong. One kid posted a screenshot of a text sent at 10pm last night (July 29). The phone number was a NC area code (where the kid said they were from), but the phone number was nothing close to the Duke admissions office. There are no other posts from this kid.

Only one poster said they got the same. So that’s supposedly two kids.

Perhaps Duke has opened their waitlist. However, one questionable post on Reddit does not make something real.

Why would duke text at 10pm? Frankly, why would they text period?
It's all weird.

Just in news that the Trump admin is going after Duke now. I do think some schools are overenrolling to offset other fiscal losses. A good number of Brown kids complaining about triples, and Brown went to the waitlist. Just cram in all the kids you can this year, I guess.

Exactly. I’ve heard of admissions officers calling students to let them know they are off the waitlist. But that is done during the day from the school.

It’s real- my son received it as well. Ours came in at 6pm- my son received a text and an email and I got the email.

He had also been told in early June that the waitlist is closed and that they were full.

I’m the PP who received the Duke correspondence… I think they sent a text to students as well as an email to parents to make sure the message was received as time is of the essence. The email heavily implied that an acceptance would come quickly if you replied favorably to the form.

Dumb of them to close the waitlist in the first place. Most others remain open.
