se 60 and older, did you lose your appetite?

Anonymous
Just turned 60. I do get hungry but it does not take much to fill me up, and often I might be hungry but little appeals to me. Am quite social so I do have lunches, coffees, and dinners out so I need to order something. I am 5 ft @ 123 lbs.

I am active in general, exercise, and have at home weight routine so I do need fuel and I want to eat fruits and vegetables for my health.

Curious if anyone ( only my age or older) has or is facing this, and suggestions on what you have found fuels you the most ( healthily), do you rely on supplements or maybe a smoothie, etc. and is this feeling normal. Thank you.

I wish! I’m 65 and can still get ravenous, but know I can’t eat everything I want.

I eat like a horse. If anything, my fear of gaining weight is gone now since who cares anyway, and I really enjoy eating.

It’s normal for appetites to dip with age, try 2 bigger meals without snacks and see if your appetite for those meals improves.

I’d focus on whole food proteins, not smoothies or supplements.

Yes, thank you for asking. All biometrics really well.

Grew up in FL. Those early bird specials for old folks are smaller portions. Plus the split entrees or get doggy bags.
Just order tombe sociable. You don't have to eat it all.

I will speak for my dead mother - this absolutely happened to her. And she was super fat and through my childhood ate huge and multiple portions.

But when she got older, she wanted less food. And I've seen it with a lot of older people, not just her.

As you lose muscle your appetite will decrease. Nature's way of helping you to survive longer.

I'm finding this at 57. I lost my appetite a year ago due to a stressful situation with my mom's health, and while it did come back somewhat, it's just not what it used to be. I seem to have the best appetite for dinner, so I make sure I have a decent one every night.

Normal part of aging, although it does mean you might die sooner than someone who has a bigger appetite, in my experience with the elderly.

Most things taste too salty. Many things taste too sweet. I haven't cut back intentionally for health concerns but I eat much differently than I did when I was <60. It now seems "death by chocolate" could be a real possibility!

Im a bit younger and still eating as much as I ever did. But I'm one of those people who's never missed a meal (or even a snack) except for the handful of times in my life Ive had a stomach bug. Im 5'4 and around 120 lbs, mid 50s.

The women my age on DH's side of the family are down to a few bites of food per meal. My MIL can get 5 meals out of a chicken thigh. I hope my metabolism doesn't tank, but if it does, I hope it takes my appetite with it!
