| What is the likelihood of making the Freshman or JV team if my kid is a b team club player. How is it looking this year? How many do they take? |
| Usually for smaller private schools, it’s a bit easier to make the team. JV or Varsity. B team travel kids would be some of the better players in the school. |
| They’ll take about 20 or so. And yes, b travel players make the freshman team. Prob not the JV team. |
Not at be catholic HS in the area. Usually only MLSNext/ECNL Players are on Varsity or JV as freshmen |
| I can't speak to the boys side, but on the girls side, it's going to be freshman team. Lots of top tier players who fill JV. |
| My son is trying out and there’s a lot of great kids, but enough to spread across the two. And yes, there will be some who don’t make it. |
|
where are the top tier players from, clubwise?
any freshman making varsity if ?top team |
On the girls side- Bethesda/Arlington. Allison recruits a select few incoming freshman and those are the only freshman who made varsity last year- and I think there was only one sophomore who made varsity last year. I would assume something similar this year. |
| Boys side, starters on MLSNext and ECNL teams have a good chance of making varsity assuming the coach knows that. That is, don’t expect to stand out at tryouts. Let them know beforehand. |
no way is this true- there are a lot of kids with these qualities coming in - they wont all make the teams. |
I said good chance, and assuming the player is MLSNext/ECNL and can stand out over 3 days of tryouts. But if you are hoping to make varsity as a freshman, you should already be talking to the coach. Not only at St John’s, but all private school coaches have club affiliations and will alrdy have players they want to recruit |
No other DC school "recruits" for sports like SJC. They are very brazen about it, including recruiting players who up and move to DC to play for them. This is vastly different than the coach sending a note to the admissions committee about a particular player or two they want to weigh in on. |
Sure, a few of the other sports are like that, but no one is moving to the DC area to play soccer at St John’s |
That's true. But even still, the way the girls side has been run, it's drastically different than other private schools. There are the "recruits" and then everyone else who don't get a second glance. Which is really stupid considering the level of talent so many of these students have. |
| Don't forget the St John's Circle where they pick the ones who make it and excuse the ones that don't. |
