Pre-Cancer Skin marks

Anonymous
Got a rough patch on my nose and although it was completely skin colored, it wouldn’t allow make-up to sit right. At first I thought it was a blister and tried to moisturize it, but it wouldn’t go away. When I went to the dermatologist, she said it was pre-cancer (AK).

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised as I’m fair skinned and got bad sunburns as a kid, but also scared for my future. I’m not even 50.

Anyone else get this condition? Did you get more after you found the first one?

I've had them my whole life. I get them burned off. Recently I did a topical treatment that is technically a form of chemotherapy to get tiny ones and ones under the surface.

Tell me more- she suggested the chemotherapy cream as a possibility for this winter. When I researched it, people had horrible things to say about it, but obviously better than cancer.

I did it on my nose. It was effective and ugly, but not horrible. I was out of public for about 10 days. I had systemic reaction (headache, GI symptoms, extreme lethargy) that I was not prepared for but were fine. After that I got approved for Photodynamic therapy and did that. (https://www.levulan.com/). I plan to do that annually, it can treat the whole face at once with just 2 days of down time but it's not quite as effective, but If I do it annually, hopefully. that will be good enough. That was so interesting, the whole side of my face that was exposed in the car lit up/reacted and the other side just didn't quite as much. with that one, you have to stay in almost complete darkness for 2 days, but after that, you are good.

Long term, I am glad I did both. There is a face book gropu I found out about here where you can ask questions about the cream.

you're welcome! "fluorouracil / Efudex / Efudix"

There are a lot of people from UK and Austrialia who get sent home with a tube and no instructions. It's helpful, but there are people treating their whole face when my doctor told me that I would cycle around my face in 2 inch sections. if I did the whole face with the cream.
The admins speak with some kind of authority "we do this" "we do that" but it is helpful.

Keep checking! You likely will have more form. The dermatologist can freeze them off. I am to the Efudex treatment over the winter. After having a Moh's surgery on my face, I am more willing to do the cream....
