100% remote and style

Anonymous
I have always worked in person full time, even through covid. About 10 months ago I took another opportunity that is 100%.remote and for the first time ever I have been remote since Fall 2025.

Despite being 100% remote I still dress up fully with work attire (pencil skirts, blouse etc. On Friday I will wear a nice polo with a navy skirt. I still wear makeup and do hair every morning. My only concession is I don't wear tights or leggings (during cool months) or dress shoes. I wear comfy slippers. But no one sees my feet. I know it's weird but at home during my lunch break I walk around in my business dressy outfit and look down and see fuzzy slippers. I guess it's still weird for me working at home.

I do have frequent daily teams calls. I always have my camera on for smaller meetings. If I am one of many at a large meeting it is camera's off. Even though with small meetings only about 10% of people use cameras. It's so weird having one on one meetings and talking to a fixed head shot.

I'm not sure why I'm posting. I guess I was just mulling over fashion choices and wfh culture. And perhaps if fashion is perhaps pointless. But I have dressed up my whole life. Sometimes I feel like I'm dressed up for the proverbial party but there is no party to go to. I don't even really own many casual clothes.

I walk my dog in the very early morning (after I'm dressed up for the day). For the dog walk though I obviously put keds on. I see the same people and sometimes we chat. The other day the lady I always see outside asked me where I work. I told her I from home doing such and such. She was so surprised and thought I worked in the city.

I love wfh but I feel like I'm in a little funk. I can't imagine not dressing up bc that's what I've always done. I've always dressed up for me. But sometimes I wonder if nothing matters anymore since we all sit behind screens. I could have athletic shorts on waist down and no one would no. I would know though. And I've never ever dressed in athletic wear unless I'm exercising or out running. I wouldn't even go to the grocery store in athletic wear. Unless I just left the gym of course.

Sorry for the ramble. Anyone else had a struggle from ft office to ft remote?

OP here. Correction. Been full time remote since Fall 2024. Not 2025.

I mean if that's what you like feel free to do it.

But I encourage you to explore the amazing world of casual, flattering, well-fitted jeans and ponte pants and joggers paired with luxurious tees and casual blouses, and a sweater blazer or button down paired with jewelry for a work-from-home look that is comfortable.

I wear business on the top, soft pants on the bottom. You do you.

I go into the office 1x a week as an excuse to keep buying business clothes.

+1 for summer i like light, loose, linen mens shirts. Yesterday i wore a black cotton dress that paired well (IMO) with a linen blazer for video calls.

It sounds like maybe you’re still mentally transitioning to WFH or maybe you want to go back to an in office job? I’m not sure, but I was struck by your comment that you feel all dressed up without no proverbial party to go to. This may be about more than clothes.

OP here. I agree it isn't just about fashion style. When everyone through covid was wfh I still had to be in person daily bc of the nature od my work. I didn't mind bc I couldn't change it. I'm not an extrovert at all and have a small group of nice friends I get together with once in a while. But the wfh model is very interesting. I work for different organizations across the country. I know different people and different organizations quite well, due to the nature of my work. But I'll never once step foot in their physical offices it is very weird at some level. Would i want to go back in person over wfh? Not really but if I had to that would be OK. But eith wfh there is no commute and my work life balance is great. Early morning daily walks at 630am before I start my day. Normally I would be driving. But now I get the pleasure of watching the sun rise as I walk my dog and feel the fresh air. Over my lunch break I change quickly and do a 30 minute yoga session at home every day at lunch. Then it's back to work for a productive busy afternoon. And after work I feel refreshed bc of no commute. I cook a nice dinner and we eat by 6pm. It's only after dinner that I change into my comfy evening clothes to enjoy the rest of the night. So I will stick with wfh. But I can't give up my business dress identity. I also feel more ready for work in a work outfit vs. Yoga pants.

I can’t relate to you in the slightest. I work from home, no camera, and wear my nightgown all day that I slept in.

You’re that person who is always on camera when everyone else is off?
