Have any of you read the absolutely horrifying article about organ donation in the NYT?
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/20/us/organ-transplants-donors-alive.html I have to admit, I have some conservative family members that warned me to take my name off the list years ago, and I dismissed them as conspiracy theorists. But it looks like they were absolutely correct. I’m going to remove my name from the donor rolls as soon as possible (and apologize to my relatives). |
Sorry, but only fools sign up as organ donors as they will let one die rather than resuscitate. |
OP here. Yes, I accept I was a fool to trust the system. I’m changing that, though. |
Could someone please post a gift link? |
The article is INSANE-completely unacceptable level of error, by an order of magnitude. The level of incompetence and f-kry is going to set back donation by a generation.

OP here. And these are just the stories they found. How many more like this are out there? How many people killed for these ghouls? |
This is insane and truly terrifying - "H.H.S. said in 2020 that it would begin grading procurement organizations on how many transplants they arranged. The department has threatened to end its contracts with groups performing below average, starting next year."
Thanks to PP for the gift article. So sad because organ donation is so important and can save so many lives. |
Kudos to the nyt for this article and (and rotten tomatoes for the procurement agencies and the credulous docs in this article-you’ve done terrible harm to them donation and lives will be lost as a result.) |
Some lives will be saved, though. |
How do I get my name off the list |
This is insane to me and I'm thankful that I have not seen this in my professional career (yet). The last few donors we've had have either said in their advanced directives what they wanted to happen to them or had such massive damage to their brain that there was no chance of survival.
Taking aside all the ethical and moral issues that are going on, it's so sad the damage this is going to do for organ donation. It can be such a wonderful and life saving thing. I was able to donate some of my dad's body after he passed and I have such peace knowing his death has improved the lives of others. I hope these incompetent people get their licenses revoked at a minimum. As an aside, maybe it's not the case everywhere, but I've worked in various areas of the hospital and have been involved in many codes as well as people being brought in coding. We have no idea what your organ donation status is. We code everyone the same assuming the aren't a DNR/DNI. |
Yikes. I didn’t realize that these ghouls patrolled the hospital hallways. I’m taking off the donor designation on my license. |
Yes. It’s horrifying. |
And yet... there are so many people who trust the healthcare and pharmaceutical system and heap scorn on people who are reluctant to just blindly follow conventional medical advice. |
