What happened to all of the superior D1 teams/swimmers? Don't see any of them as top seeds in any of the five events in 13-14 girls/boys and 15-18 girls/boys. |
D1 teams can dominate because of their depth, not individual superstars. They're represented at IAS, but not front and center all the time. Much less likely to scratch, though, especially at the younger ages! |
Um. Are you trolling? In case your aren’t? Maybe because divisionals is about individuals with entry limits and not about team depth across events and age groups. |
odd take. D1 teams don't necessarily have all the top swimmers in every age group, but overall they have a teams full of stronger swimmers/ more depth than lower division pools. That is the fun thing about All Stars- top swimmers from ALL pools get a chance to shine even if they swim at a lower division pool or pool that never wins meets. Not sure how this is hard to understand. |
Most of our mid-Division swimmers who win their events would still win or have a very close seconds against D1 teams. The difference is that the #2 swimmer finishes 4th every.single.time. And the kids who are a reliable 2nd and rare winners also would be 4th. Almost all relays would lose.
THAT'S why D1 is "superior" |
Our top swimmers from D1 in age brackets you mentioned didn’t go to divisionals. |
You're mistaken.
D1 teams dominate all-star relays but not individual all-stars. Not all the top swimmers live nearby or swim for D1 teams. |
Only 1 or 2 of the top kids over the age of about 10 from our D1 team went to divisionals. Several of dd’s friends from other d1 teams didn’t go either. |
There’s a little event for the elite swimmers this coming weekend called Futures. For as much fussing as people do here over summer swim, the elite HS aged swimmers are not choosing all stars over Futures. |
Well, a lot of Futures swimmers did do Divisionals. I think every top seed in 15-18 girls is scratching along with at least half a dozen of her friends. lol |
If they didn’t go to divisionals because they were at age group champs meet, they wouldn’t have taken the top spots anyway because they’re swimming at the age group meet and aren’t at the level of the top spots. At least for 15-18 age group. |
I suspect we are replying to a teenager (because any grown person would already understand the answer to the question): As everyone has said above, it’s about scoring points and depth, not whether the team has all the top seed swimmers. D1 and D2 teams have more depth. It’s akin to (teen OP, this means “similar to”) why teams like Ohio State, ‘Bama, and Georgia have the most overall NFL players, but the best players ever come out of schools like Mississippi Valley State. One of the best NVSL girls who holds multiple records is in D16. But you can see the depth of D1 and D2 by looking at the numbers in the top 18:
13-14 Girls IM: 9/18 swimmers are in D1 or D2 13-14 Girls Fly: 7/18 are in D1 or D2 13-14 Girls Breast: 7/18 are in D1 or D2 13-14 Girls Back: 7/18 are in D1 or D2 13-14 Girls Free: 6/18 are in D1 or D2 — In 9-10 Girls, half (9/18) of 50 Free and 50 Back all stars are in D1 or D2. 7/18 of the 9-10 Girls Breaststroke all stars are from D1 or D2, and 8/18 of the 9-10 Girls Fly all stars are from D1 or D2. 6/18 of the 10U Girls IM all stars are from D1 or D2. |
This is also just patently false. Every single one of the best 11-12 and 13-14 swimmers was at D1 Divisionals. (Official here.) 15-18 is the only place there were holes, as is always the case. |
Was responding to this post: Anonymous wrote: Only 1 or 2 of the top kids over the age of about 10 from our D1 team went to divisionals. Several of dd’s friends from other d1 teams didn’t go either. So basically this poster is incorrect, if you are saying that all of them were at divisionals. Also, I was referring specifically to 15-18 groups. If there were holes (implying they were at an age group meet and not the Open champs meet the week prior), then even if they did swim at divisionals, they wouldnt have been good enough to take any of the top spots in 15-18 age group (Official here). |
Here is the pre-scratch Futures Psych Sheet. And here is an inexhaustive list of female swimmers (many are D1) by initials who both swam at NVSL Divisionals AND are swimming at Futures (all public record):
- SB - LS - KM - AR - MT - LR - HP - LD There are a few notable absences from 13-14 and 15-18 girls (MB, LW, MC), but it is false to say every Futures swimmer was absent from NVSL Divisionals. https://websitedevsa.blob.core.windows.net/sitefinity/docs/default-source/eventsdocuments/events-posting/2025-tyr-futures-championships/2025-futures-greensboro-preliminary-psych.pdf?sfvrsn=26c71b32_1 |
