| It’s been a month since the final panel interview for a VP role. I received an update a week ago asking for patience and gauging my continued interest. I know it’s summer but jeez. Is it time to move on? I like my job, but I’ve had an eye on the door. |
|
Keep looking for other jobs.
My guess is that they offered someone else and are in negotiations/waiting to see if the accept. If they don't, they may offer you. Happened to me, and I only know I was second choice because I happened to know the first choice personally, and he told me he turned it down. (Not knowing I was interviewing with them as well) |
| My DH got an offer after like 2 months? He just assumed he didnt get it, but when we were coming back from vacation (literally sitting at the airport during a layover), he got a call from one of his references who said they had just called him. He got the offer a few days after that! |
Did you take the job? If so, did you feel weird knowing you weren’t the first choice? |
| Lehman Brothers is getting back to me still. |
| How about if you had a lunch interview with a law firm? Should you assume you’re not getting an offer if it’s been more than a week? |
| I wasn't really waiting, but I got a rejection email for an academic position 7 years after my interview. |
| I think I waited 4 months for one once. It was a large company, they claimed there was a temporary hiring freeze. I took the job, ended up being great for my career. |
I was called for an interview 2.5 years after applying for a job at the Smithsonian. I still regret scoffing at HR and not pursuing it. |
| Move on. |
Were you updated while you waited? Did you know there was a freeze? I could handle that more than thinking I misjudged the panel interviews. |
Actually now that I think about it, I only learned of the hiring freeze after I joined. But I did get weekly or so communication from the recruiter, telling me things like the team wants me but they need to wait until they can submit the request to HR. Each week it sounded like it would happen, but then it didn't. It was frustrating but it was my dream job/company and I didn't have a deadline, so I just waited. |
This would make me think I was the backup choice and they were negotiating with their first choice. |

Keep applying until you have an offer in hand and a start date.
Agree you’re probably not the first choice. But the first choice could fall through. |
| 6 months, but I would move on. |
