DC's friends are all working this summer at coffee shop, boba tea place, and thai tea cafe. |
What is NFP?
Google tells me it's either natural family planning, or an insurance company but I am guessing it's something else in this context. Although if your teen and their lover work different shifts, maybe it would be effective? |
Those seem like normal summer jobs to me. |
What is NFP?
And what is wrong (or at least dvum post worthy) with working in the restaurant business especially as an entry level position as a teen? |
No F**king Problem?
I guess you are saying they have a relaxed take on a summer job and not trying to get an internship? |
Getting a summer job is not a strategy for college admissions, OP. Many of us insist on it so our kids learn responsibility and have their own cash to spend. We are HHI and all of my kids have had summer jobs. |
Agreed. My kids have always had "normal" jobs, and it's been the best thing for them. |
If they're college students, they are probably not finding internships/summer jobs relevant to their majors.
Camps/pools are another summer job option for college students. My rising 12th grader is working as a cashier at a local pool this summer, and many of her peers are college students. |
Not for profit? These jobs don't pay much?
I would always would explain to mine that if you're going to do the food service thing, do it at the most expensive place you can get a job because then you'll get more tips. |
If the kid kept working on a part-time job during the school year, the part-time job lasts for an elongated period of time, colleges can view it very positively. If the kid works to support family, that is even more valuable in college admission.
What you describe sounds like a last minute application gimmick. It's not going to help your application much. |
If NFP does mean No F-ing Problem, when were summer jobs ever an f-ing problem? Kids have taken summer jobs for eons.
OP, please come back and elaborate. I really don’t understand the question. |
NP. I think OP means that suddenly kids are all working part time jobs as an application strategy the same way it was trendy to start not for profits a few years ago?? Just a guess. Maybe OP can explain. Regardless, working a teen job has always been a thing. Rich or poor, don’t all parents want their kids to be busy, making a little cash, getting out of the house, meeting kids from other schools, etc.? |
What does no one expect a financial contribution from their kids for their college education? Mine earn money during the summer and they spend it during the school year. |
This is fun. Let’s all play “guess what OP means.” I think OP is referring to kids already in college and home for the summer, working jobs the OP deems beneath their own children, instead of prestigious internships. |
NFP, nobody understands the OP. |
