Would you consider these people rich or just average?

My weekend took me to Alabama due to a wedding and I ended up befriending a few people at the wedding and going to their homes. One couple I met is a lawyer and stay at home mom. They live in a 5000 sq ft home and drive a Lexus and an Audi. They had a live in nanny. The kicker is that their house is only worth $450k and he is a solo attorney in a suburb. Would you consider these people rich or just middle class in the right area to live a nice lifestyle? Yes I’m being materialistic and terrible thinking these things.

They have a wealthy lifestyle. Maybe they're not actually wealthy. And if they're out in the sticks to achieve it, without a lot of multicultural exposure and activity choices, that's not the sort of life I want.

I would just enjoy their friendship

Not enough info given. They might have family money, the lawyer might make $$$$ bringing med mal or class action suits. You don’t have to work in Biglaw to make a lot. No need to buy a $5m house when you can get a huge one for $450k.

If you exclude the nanny it just sounds like regular UMC. I bet they’re not paying the nanny much honestly.

I hope live in nanny wasn’t black.

They're probably rich for the area. It's relative. Did their neighborhood look like the nicest one in the town? If so, then they are rich for where they live. I think this is true everywhere because there are always pockets of money in most places. But they're not going to be able to match a person in an NYC rich neighborhood.

I hope she was. I actually like black people.

I don't know how much debt they have so maybe they're living large on credit cards.

In flyover country you don't have to make 7 figures to have two cars and a nice house. That's just crazy DC thinking.

Turns out most of the country is way nicer and has a way higher standard of living than DMV.

UMC unless they have a lot of debt. Then, they are middle class.

You...met them at a wedding and then went into their homes? What kind of wedding is this? Really weird.

And no, they are middle class. Anyone can live like that in AL if you have some medium amount of education and work ethic.

A tuakly most of the country is not really nicer...just has larger cookie cutter Mcmasions at low prices because their public schools and infrastructure suck and there are no airports/shopping/fine dining for hundreds of miles.

I don’t think it’s that weird. Wedding was on Friday and I was there until Sunday.
