Emma Watson banned from driving; failed to appear in court

Anonymous
She’s been convicted in the past for multiple driving offences.

Is there even more we are not hearing here? Drink driving?

38 in an 30? What madness!

Does it say that anywhere? UK points last for 3 years. So 4 tickets over a 3 year period for infractions less than 10 mph over the posted speed limit.

They're strict about speeding in residential areas which a 30 might have been. Highway driving is pretty speedy in the UK.

When I was in college and got three speeding tickets in a year, the state suspended my license for six months. I showed up to court though.

It’s also highly congested there so it’s extremely dangerous of her to be tearing around like a crazy-person (repeatedly).

She’s lucky she hasn’t killed or maimed someone (yet).

In this case, she’s in college, but she’s also 35. Also, she sent her lawyer to appear in court.

The UK is really strict about this stuff and sending your lawyer to court on your behalf is not equivalent to failing to appear in most cases. While she shouldn't speed, 4 tickets in 3 years within 10 miles of the speed limit and counting camera catches (!) is really nothing... By that standard, the majority of Americans would likely not be able to drive.

They give out tickets for going 3mph over the limit in the UK. They give tickets with points to you as the registered owner of car so you have to prove it was your husband/kid driving if you don't want to accrue points and it wasn't you. You can go to a reeducation programme to avoid points, even if you were only going a few mph over the limit.

I used to live in London. British drivers are some of the best drivers I’ve ever encountered. Apparently, it’s extremely difficult to pass the drivers license test, so that’s probably one reason. Also, giving tickets for “minor” infractions is probably another reason.

I wish they'd implement such strict rules here. As for Emma, she's rich enough to hire a full-time driver for the period of her driving suspension.

If she's living in Oxford, she probably doesn't need to drive much. Parking is bad. People bike around and catch the train to London if they need to go there.

I live in a busy street. It has a 25 mph limit. They stuck one of those mobile speed displays up and many many cars were going 40 mph+.
