Has anyone heard more about the plans for the transition day? I have a rising kindergartener (and also an older elementary school kid who would need/use KAH if they'll be offering it in the building that day, or else I need to take the day off work) but have not heard anything about what the plan is. It's 6 weeks away! |
First day of school announcements tend to be announced a couple days beforehand |
I would contact your school's office and ask them if they know the plans yet. |
It will only be for your kindergartner, but I’m not sure how KAH will be running. Reach out to them. |
Isn't this an MCPS-wide thing, not an individual school thing, so shouldn't there be information out from Central Office by now on this? Schools can't decide on their own what times the buses run, can they? |
It sounds more like the question is one for KAHz. The McPS thing is clear — transition students will have school, other kids won’t. Your question is really whether KAH is operating that day which is a KAH question. They must know by then so id just call them. My understanding is that buses are running for the transition kids and I doubt a bus driver would stop an older kid from getting on the bus as well. |
The buses would run at the same times they run on regular school days. That's one of the points of the transition day, to get a practice day for the buses. |
KAH's school year calendar says their first day is August 26th. |
That's not my only question. It would also be good to know whether the kindergarteners will be going for a full day or a half day (our principal alluded in the spring to that being TBD), etc. Also I am just surprised there is not more communication on this from MCPS in general. I feel like most elementary school parents (especially new K parents) have no idea which kids are starting school which day, and it's late in the game to not be communicating about that. If they're just waiting for principals to send their own emails to parents in mid-August that's nuts... |
While it would be nice to have information and transparency about how Transition Day, the reality is that it's probably more realistic to expect more details on this in August. |
Usually schools had an open house and another day for new students. This is Dr. Taylor's way to spin something new when its not. |
It's a full day.
"Student Transition Day Introduced: Scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, this new non-instructional full day is designed to support students transitioning to new school levels or schools by fostering a sense of belonging and preparedness. It is for students in Grades K, 6, and 9, Grade 3 students at the Grades 3-5 elementary schools, and students new to a school or MCPS." https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/press/index.aspx?pagetype=showrelease&id=13448 |
Note that wasn’t a point as the buses have always been practicing the routes in the days before school began and the Thursday transition half day also included bus service just like a regular school day. |
What Thursday transition half-day? We have definitely never had that before at our elementary school. |
We got a note from our CES that they’ll have a transition day as well (rising 4th) |
