I love good fresh corn but it's way too hit or miss and it's a pita to boil it and then cut off the kernels. I'm convinced bags of frozen corn might be better and guests don't know the difference. Just dump however many bags of cooked frozen corn into a serving tray or big bowl with good butter, fresh pepper, good salt, chives or herbs... guests LOVE it.
I'm not saying all frozen veggies are good enough to dupe guests but I don't think anyone can tell with corn. |
Agreed. |
Better? No.
But corn is definitely a vegetable I'm fine with serving from frozen. In the summer I use fresh corn, but I make corn salsas, and an elote salad, and add corn to salads and soups all with frozen corn year round. |
I didn't realize this until later in life. Even allegedly super fresh roadside stand and farmers market corn is hit or miss, while frozen is literally always good. |
No shopping, no shucking, no boiling water, no mess from cutting the kernels, and no inconsistency is in fact better. Some fresh corn cobbs you put in all the effort and in the end it's gross, which is infuriating. Frozen corn is literally always good. |
OK yes from that point of view it’s better. I was thinking taste. |
I don't understand the hit or miss comments, do you mean the ears have gone bad?
I shuck it at the store so I know what I'm buying, and then we grill it. Never goes wrong. |
You clearly don't know how to cook corn properly. |
Nooo absolutely not. Corn on the cob is annoying to eat so I never make it. But it’s way better. |
I use both. Some taste dishes taste better when using fresh corn. |
I think it comes down to you don't know when the ears were picked. The best corn is eaten the day it's picked. |
I microwave corn in the husk for 4 minutes. Very simple. |
Fresh, at its peak corn is super juicy and sweet. Good frozen corn is sweet and slightly chewy |
You're wrong. Fresh corn or home frozen from fresh corn is way better than store bought corn. I'm very picky about where I get it, though. There is a specific vendor at the farmer's market that brings it in from my hometown in PA. |
Stop boiling it. I microwave an ear for four minutes then cut off the stem, then slide the rest out from the other end. Very easy to make, tastes great. |
