HELP - just realized my 7-year-old boy is searching YouTube for naked girls

Anonymous
I feel sick. I know it's natural for kids to be curious but I think he's way too young for this. He's not at all interested in girls at school (but of course, they are children, not women).

Also - I've uninstalled YouTube from our Chromecast, but does anyone know how I can keep him from reinstalling it?

Uh yeah - supervise him when he's using screens.

You need conversations on why this is inappropriate

You will need to talk to him starting now about how his searches can be tracked and about internet safety. He should not be online at all without supervision.

OP here - I had no idea he was interested; he has a very short list of interests and only ever watches videos on those subjects. I guess it's time to set parental controls on my YouTube account. (Can I do that?)

That was the age I saw that my ds searched "nekid buts".

Thank you, this makes me feel better. Mine searched for "...no pants no shirt no braw."

Both my boys did something similar at that age. It’s developmentally normal, but you need to talk to him and also lock down the settings.

Take away the devices. No unsupervised screen time. Let him watch kid channels on tv, no phones or iPads.

He only ever watches on the TV, through our Chromecast. We live in an apartment so I'm hardly ever out of earshot. Apparently he was searching and previewing videos silently whenever I left the room. Diabolical!

OP here - any tips on what to say? He's easily embarrassed and I'm not sure how to approach this in a way that won't make him feel ashamed and lead to immediate shut-down.

Maybe focus on how those women are someone's mommy and aunt and sister, and how would he feel if someone was looking at me that way?

At that age, it might very well be simple curiosity as opposed to anything sexual. Maybe you could find some generic illustrations for children, and go over the basic anatomy.

Wow OP, my NINE year old still is only allowed on YouTube Kids. 7 is way too young to have him unsupervised access to the internet.

I hope you mean he was searching for naked women as your title implied CSAM. If you don’t mean women, you need to disable to internet unless you are sitting right next to him. Or you’ll soon be sitting next to the FBI.

OP here - yes, I meant women.
