Is bedwetting really this common?

Son is 7 years old and he still wets the bed every night . We have took a pretty lack approach to it we went to his pediatrician who says it's common still . I have tried reducing drinks in the evening and stopping them altogether an hour and a half before bed . It still doesn't help just keep putting goodnites on him . I hope that he stops on his own soon is anyone else dealing with this i wonder if we should stop using goodnites and let him wake up wet to see if that helps train his brain any ideas or experience ?

It is common. Our pediatrician was not worried. I think our daughter eventually stopped around 2nd or third grade.

Constipation. Try the ex lax chocolates daily and see if it improves.

It's common. My kid got motivated on her own to want to stop using pull ups. It is largely hormonal as to whether or not they will wake up when they have to pee, but since she was motivated we used it to set up a few good habits that can make it more likely they will stay dry:

- Always use the toilet right before bed
- Always use the toilet upon waking, even if it's early enough to go back to bed. You wake up, you go to the bathroom. This is the most important one because it's how they learn how to get up and use the toilet at night if they need it. It won't prevent nighttime accidents but it can end morning accidents which for my kid was about half of all her accidents.
- Get in the habit of drinking a full glass of water with dinner and then not having more than a sip or two after that if necessary. Doing this will also facilitate voiding their bladder right before bed (easier to do when it's somewhat full).

I would start with this stuff and if he's still wetting the bed, it's just hormones and you need to wait. For our kid, this got rid of about 95% of her accidents and we ditched the pull-ups.

It's common and also has a genetic component too. I had it and my father did too. My mom just put a plastic cover under my sheets and one over my sheets so if I wet the bed, she could pull the top, wet sheet off and have another dry sheet under it.

This was like a miracle for us. Worked for two kids, both in less than a week - and then no more accidents.

Yes common. 9 year old has never been dry. He has used medication at sleep overs. I keep hoping it clicks soon.

I wouldn’t say common but I would say within the range of normal. Theye is a genetic compliant and it is common for kids with adhd. It’s part of the brain wiring issue. Often it’s kids who sleep deeply and whose brains just don’t send the “wake up” sognal. The alarms can help them to train the brain. We couldn’t get them to work because it seemed like they kept breaking and I gave up after our third one.

This is definitely not common. Age 7?

Eight year old daughter still wets five nights a week on average. We just keep goodnites on hand for her .

It's certainly far more common than people realize.

I have a family member that serves as an assistant director for a summer camp (that I was a counselor as for 5~ish seasons previously) and I promise you, the number of kids that come to camp still dealing with bedwetting is significant. Especially among the boys, for some reason.

It's just not something that comes up often in casual talk among parents, but I promise - people are dealing with it.

The stats are something like 10% at age 6 and then it drops one percent each year. Some kids don't stop until puberty. My 10 year old may be one of them unfortunately.

It’s common enough for elementary school age kids to wear a nighttime pull-up that it doesn’t even phase most kids if they find out a friend has them. Seriously, it’s just not stigmatizing the way it used to be. I’ve babysat kids as old as 10 that still wear a pull-up to bed.

Anyone still use the regular side fastening diapers for bedtime? My kiddo still fits the size 7 comfortably and I don’t see any reason to pay extra for the big kid pull-ups if they can wear a diaper just fine. We’ve never made a big deal about it.
