How long has your student’s MacBook Air lasted?

Trying to assess a reasonable expectation of a /college student. Mine has destroyed a MacBook Air by carrying it with a water bottle that leaked. Sigh. How long has your student made their laptop last?

Do you have dorm insurance or personal property insurance that will cover it?

It’s been 3 years in college so far.

Years, and I expect it to last thru med school too

Oof I’m sorry, oldest is years and meticulous. Worried about my upcoming freshman that is more careless. We paid for the care plan for these.

The MacBook isn’t the issue the water bottle was.

for both kids lasted all 4 years and still going

Not what you asked but I’m an accident prone adult and have had a near miss with this. I bought a waterproof bag meant for diapers or swimsuits and slid my padded laptop sleeve in that. And that just lives in my backpack.

MacBooks are amazing. They can last 8 years or more if you don’t dump liquid all over them.

7th grade thru HS graduation. Got a new one for college, although old one was working fine. Just end of the line, I think

I think OP is well aware the water was the issue. They are asking how many years people are getting out of them before an unfortunate event happens, not the lifespan of a MacBook in general.

Our MacBook Air with (x86) lasted 6 years of college plus grad school, and was working fine - no damage - when DC traded it in towards a new (M-series) laptop.

Starting grad school in the Fall, so 4 years and counting for one, second is a senior, so 3 years and counting
