| Not what you asked but I’m an accident prone adult and have had a near miss with this. I bought a waterproof bag meant for diapers or swimsuits and slid my padded laptop sleeve in that. And that just lives in my backpack. |

| I think OP is well aware the water was the issue. They are asking how many years people are getting out of them before an unfortunate event happens, not the lifespan of a MacBook in general. |

| Our MacBook Air with (x86) lasted 6 years of college plus grad school, and was working fine - no damage - when DC traded it in towards a new (M-series) laptop. |
