Does anybody have a source for the data/graphs on boys recruiting that has been posted to social media soccer sites around college placement for boys? Just wondering where they got the source data from? I've always seen girls data, but this is the first time I have seen boys data...
MLS Next Boys College Placement D1- 30% D2- 15% D3-15% No college soccer- 40% ECNL Boys College Placement D1- 25% D2- 20% D3- 20% No college soccer- 35% |
There are lies, damned lies ... and then there are social media posts. |
Who in their right mind believes this? |
Being there are twice as many D3 schools as there are D1 and D2 combined, I find those numbers hard to believe. |
Why don't you ask the social media accounts who post it? |
Wow, this is complete made up nonsense. |
Those numbers are too well rounded and tidy to be accurate. It looks made up. |
Why do people think these numbers are off? They seem right. 25-30% of a team goes D-1. 15-20% D2 and 15-20% D3. All seems about right. What surprises me is 35-40% do not play in college. That is way higher than I would have thought but could very well be true. Where are the similar stats on the girl's side? |
really only a 1/3 to 1/2 of boys are getting recruited. Part of it is, kids don't want to go to a school that's the size of their high school. It's not worth it as opposed to going to VA Tech, Ohio State or UMD college park and playing club soccer. |
No crap? really? like that's something new? |
agree--they don't seem too off. Anecdotally, looking at our club...the past 3 years of recruiting landed about like this. That only 60% play isn't all that surprising given all the international and transfer stuff which will probably rise over time. But would like to know the source. You can find the girls stats relatively easily. . There are several places that publish this that I've seen. There are something like 20% more slots for girls than boys which is why the boys have a harder go. I am hearing that its getting tougher for internationals though so maybe the numbers will hold steady for the moment. |
These numbers even if they are true mean little for your own situation because it varies wildly from club to club. This is especially pronounced on the girls side. The top clubs are producing a much higher amount than the rest of the pack. |
My best guess, not research it's prob more like:
MLS Next Boys College Placement D1- 10% D2- 20% D3-30% No college soccer- 40% (2/3 of these kids prob got offers at some level, but opted for school over soccer) ECNL Boys College Placement D1- 5% D2- 15% D3- 30% No college soccer- 50% (1/2 of these kids prob got offers at some level, but opted for school over soccer) |
The biggest flaw in this is it doesn't include the share going professional, surely a route that would be part of "not college soccer" MLSN clearly HAS that segment. Unclear whether ECNL really does. THAT certainly would change how to view this. |
Most ECNL teams -- even the so so and iffy ones have all but one or two kids playing. That is the case with all of the local Nova ECNL clubs. |
