We are headed to LI for a tournament this weekend. Staying near Happauge. Is Jones Beach a nice area for 16 year old boys to walk and hang in the afternoon/evening? Where is there to park? Other tips or other locations?
Thanks! |
Not really.
Be careful it can get windy. There's a parking for the beach. |
Gross. |
It’s got a nice boardwalk. There’s several parking lots -though they can fill up on nice summer weekends. There’s a big concert stadium so beware traffic on concert nights. It a get more crowded/loud/trash filled than most Li beaches. Robert Moses is nearby and much quieter-but perhaps teenage boys would prefer the noise of Jones Beach. |
Is it like Rehobeth? |
Take the ferry over to Fire Island. |
It’s way nicer than Rehoboth |
Check out the Long Beach boardwalk |
It’s very nice but I believe parking is restricted to residents so research that before you go if you’re driving. |
No. Jones Beach and Robert Moses mostly cater to locals who pack their own gear and food and whose primary goal is to sit on the beach for a few hours. Jones Beach has a little bit more going on because of the concert venue, but minimize your expectations to beach, water, and a concession stand. |
Drug havens no |
This. It’s mostly just beach. And a pretty nice one. |
Or just take the Causeway like everyone else. |
The causeway only goes to Robert Moses State Park. To get to the towns on FI you need to take the ferry. The only town that has a lot going on is Ocean Beach. And “a lot going on” is a stretch. But if you wanted to go there, you need to get the ferry in Bayshore. |
Thanks everyone. Boys will not be going in water. Really looking for a teenage vibe where they can get something to eat and walk around. Won’t be getting there until mid to late afternoon. Won’t be staying there too late at night.
So will Jones Beach do the trick? Or another town not too far away? |
