Your kids will be fine.. college name doesn’t matter as much as dcum tells you

My DC is a junior at UMD at the business school. Got a paid internship this summer, including housing. Other interns at this company attend, Georgia Tech, UVA, Ohio State, Va Tech, among others. No matter what dcum tells you, it comes down to what you do once you are in college. All interns are really bright. No not all hired on the business side. Some CS students are there too. Hope this helps some panicked parents..

Well…. I have twins…. Both just graduated…..one at an Ivy, the other at a t50 private.

They both studied Economics….. one has 2 job offers as if April….. the other still looking for a job.

Ok, so one of your twins is obviously a loser and it wouldn’t matter where they went to school. What’s your point?

If they are identical twins and look exactly alike. Switch schools but no one noticed. I bet you the other one, though now at the ivy, would still not be able to find a gig. The ivy twin at t50 would still land the same internship.

The ivy wouldn’t change anything for the dumber one. The t50 would not change anything for the smarter one.

OP…every school you listed is top 50.

This...all similar tier..
and none of them are T10/ivy...yet my kid's internship is skewed heavily to elite/ivy...it depends on the specific internship and filed of study whether the school helps or not

If you are going to make the claim that college name doesn’t matter then provide an anecdote where a kid from Frostburg, Radford, UVA and MIT all have the same internship.

People are tone deaf when they list only top 50 schools and then claim the college name doesn’t matter.

They both scored exactly 1580 in the SAT. very similar grades. One was an athlete the other a musician. ECs were about the same for each one’s strengths. Neither is a loser. They both graduated from College in the top (GPAs were both 95/100).

One had doors opened that the other just didnt…..you might not like it…..but that is what happened…..so far…

Thanks OP! My DD is at UMass Amherst and is in a great STEM internship at NASA so I agree.

Yes, T50 schools are cool.

Tell me more about your kid that you are proud of that got 1100 sats after much study, or had a 3.1 w gpa and got a coveted job, or who went to Towson or U Dayton or Duquesne or kennesaw state or some school most people on this board don’t even discuss or consider.
