Am I unreasonable? Fireworks question

Anonymous
I live across from a DC park where every year folk set off large fireworks, some are definitely not DC legal. I normally just have a daytime nap, then watch the show from my porch, as I'm not going to get any sleep anyway. I might as well enjoy the spectacle.

But last night, some young people decided to aim the fireworks at their buddies/frenemies. The flares were going horizonal, heading towards people, cars and homes. I called 911, and after at least 7 "please hold" messages, I got through to an operator who asked "if anything was on fire at present". I answered that I didn't know as I wasn't outside anymore. I remained close to a window, watching in case something struck my home or the neighbors. I waited 40 minutes and never saw any police response. The mis-aiming of flares continued for at least 30 minutes more with flares landing near cars and pedestrians running for safety.

Am I unreasonable to think that some official response was warranted?

They received a lot of calls and were implementing triage measures, OP. Apparently this was happening in several areas of DC.

Also, DC is very poorly managed, as you well know.

They don’t have the manpower to respond to all the fireworks complaints. Unless there is an actual emergency like an injured person or something on fire they’re not responding.
In a perfect world yes, someone would respond. However, we don’t have enough officers so it’s not happening
-police dispatcher ( not in DC but in dmv)

As others have said, on a day like July 4th, they have to triage in order to disperse their limited resources. Dangerous activity but where no one is actually hurt and no property is damaged is going to be triaged very low.

Op, I don't think OP is unreasonable. How is this much different from someone shooting bullets on your street

DC has awful services.

It's DC, what do you expect?

Why haven't we defunded the police yet? They don't do anything.

This is always the best answer ! Remind them of this constantly. 😂

You did defund the police that’s why nobody showed up.

It’s almost like the young people in DC are dangerous & irresponsible. Must be Trump’s fault.

Called a Roman Candle war and it's no big deal. If they aren't on your property then MYOB.

Their behavior is DEFINITELY Trump’s fault. Somehow. Some way. It just HAS to be.

NP

Who has determined that “it’s no big deal”? Fireworks are dangerous. I agree with OP that it is a big deal. Maybe, those who think “it’s no big deal”, should confine their activities to private property, preferably far away from bystanders. If someone is shooting projectiles at people, cars, and homes, then it seems reasonable to be concerned about danger to the people, cars, and homes being targeted, as well as everyone and everything in the general vicinity. Moreover, since the fireworks were on PUBLIC property, then as a member of the public, OP is minding their own business.
