Did they announce what’s happening with Coates yet? Surely they aren’t going to leave them overcrowded again this year, just to wrap them into the unnecessary boundary study.

It is seriously annoying the high school kids do not have enough time for jobs and internships before it is back to school.

And with the intense pressure on the kids they have to make all their money in the summer so they can focus on school and extracurriculars.

Easy answer is to stop putting so much pressure on your kid and allow them to have a school year job.

Easy answer is to have a normal schedule like 90% of the rest of the country, by starting around the 3rd week of August and ending no later than Memorial Day.

I teach HS. Plenty of kids have year round jobs, or jobs during all quarters when their activity is not in season. (A lot of the marching band kids find jobs starting in November, or crew kids quit in the spring)

90 percent of the US does not gave this schedule. Not saying some don’t but not the majority. Literally all of NY was in school till last week.

Most of the schools who end around Memorial Day start earlier in August then we do. Are there some that start Aug 18 and end then, yes. But again, not majority.

I think most of the schools that start when we do end 1st week or 2nd week of June. It all comes down to how many days off they have during the year.

I want to go back to starting after Labor Day. I want to be able to go on international trips in August.

This is the schedule for Kansas City. I would love this schedule, especially the prep time for teachers in August:

From my experience, FCPS school year runs the same length as my NY family (shifted by 2 weeks) and one week longer than my Midwest family. NY family starts and finishes 2 weeks after us and OH family starts a week earlier and finishes 2 weeks earlier.

Pass it on to your SB rep: Cut a week out of winter break and move school planning to the beginning or end of the year and we can have a longer summer.

Ugh, we do well for 6-7 weeks and then it’s time to go back. Summer vacations are far too long. Would rather have two weeks between each quarter.

Very few parents want less than 2 weeks. I love the 2 week break and many divisions do this. They CAN get rid of some of the random floating days to decrease school year.

Veteran’s Day- Should be in school. Was for years and all of a sudden it is now a holiday.

Make some of the religious holidays TWD and get rid of other teacher workdays.

Next year, if they got rid of Veteran’s Day, had school on Columbus Day and made Diwali a TWD, and got rid of the TWD after spring break, we would be ending school June 12 vs June 17.
