Who can my spouse talk to about Medicare and federal retirees health coverage?

Anonymous
My husband got DOGE'd. So he's retiring effective September 30. He has no idea how to handle retiree health care coverage and I never knew Feds have an option of NOT getting Part B. My jobs' retirement plans have always required B and they coordinate coverage.

He's cut off from many people at OHR because they have abolished so much of his organization. Would a regular financial advisor in this area know what's best? Or are there federal government specialists? We are happy to pay for some guidance. I just don't even know where to start.

TIA

What is his question? If he doesn’t do anything he will just keep his FEHB. How old is he?

JCA in Rockville has a SHIP program to help Montgomery County residents with questions about Medicare and insurance.
Give them a call. If they can’t address your questions, they can probably make suggestions about programs that can, and speaking with them might help you to determine whether or not a financial advisor would be helpful.

64. I see online that staying with certain federal health plans and signing up for Part B immediately can qualify him for a subsidy toward Part B. He doesn't want to sign up for Part B. And I realize there is no penalty for waiting on Part B if he keeps his current health insurance.

He has United Health Care and apparently they have an option that combines everything and he will have very little out of pocket costs like copays, etc.

That's primarily what I'm trying to do -- minimize cost. He's on my health insurance too but refuses to drop his. And maybe he shouldn't. I just can't navigate it myself (his first language is not English and he has signs of early dementia. This is part of the reason I'm the one trying to navigate the issue).
