People are weird! I love finding out unusual things that people do. I love in novels or in movies when the characters do unusual, quirky things. Yes, quirks can be annoying, too, but mostly I find idiosyncrasies to be amusing. Share yours!
Me: -I keep a set of 5-pound hand weights in the kitchen. While I brew my morning coffee, I do an “arm workout.” The movements I do aren’t a set routine or anything formal from a magazine or anything, I just mess around. I’m sure if you saw me through the kitchen window, you’d laugh. -I love figure skating, always have. When I was a kid, I would bust out “spirals” around the house, pretending to be Michelle Kwan. I will still occasionally do a spiral when I’m home alone. -I love to re-read books (or listen to the same audiobook) and watch comfort TV shows, but everything has a season. I’ll also “save” things (especially audiobooks) so that I can enjoy them in the right season and not get sick of them. It’s a special treat to allow myself a re-experience of a familiar favorite. My family/friends: -My husband used to go to college campuses a lot because he mom was a guidance counselor. He has T-shirts and sweatshirts from that time, which still “mostly” fit. He is surprised when he wears gear from a place he did not attend, and people come up and assume he did. It genuinely baffles him that if you wear a random Colgate sweatshirt, people are going to think you went there, and not UVA. -My dad used to work for a car company, and did labor relations/management of shift workers. He used to go in very, very early for months at a time. Even though he finished out his career in more traditional office roles, because he is such an introvert, he loves the morning quiet. He will routinely get up at 4:30 or 5, enjoy his morning, take 1-2 naps a day, and go to bed at 7 p.m. -My sister and I go out of our way to answer the phone in a weird way, from saying “Biiiiiiissssshhhhhh” to randomly rapping a 90s song to using another device to make an airhorn sound effect. Please share yours! I love weirdness! |
I won’t walk under ladders. |
All I can think of is this
|
I make up fake etymology of words.
Garlic = the lick of Gar, a guy with famously bad breath. |
We play Uno all the time. We take the cards to restaurants. We sit around for sometimes hours after dinner playing and talking. We take them camping. If we forget the cards, we just buy another set.
We go to theater a lot. Day trips to NYC. West End when in London. Community theater here and wherever we travel. HS musicals. |
I love this and we could be friends in real life I love uno! How many set of cards do you have? |
Hum when I eat. |
Well, there’s the deck that’s always in my purse, the one on the kitchen table by the salt and pepper, the one that we keep with games and each kid has their own deck. I’ve had Amazon deliver them to hotels if we forget. We’ve tried Uno Attack and some others but really just end up playing with the regular cards. And my youngest is in college now and we still do this. And if we (parents) are away, we often find them at home together around the table. It’s really sweet. |
I am genuinely obsessed with the Family Relationships thread, and consider the holiday strife threads to be part of the cozy Christmas magic. |
Any weird uno rules or do you stay traditional? In my house dealer sets rules. |
lol! |
Our most important rule is no switching rules mid game. We sometimes stack but honestly we typically just play basic. When my kids play themselves they do different rules. Some of our old decks don’t have the wild card switch hands card. |
You all sound annoying to be around. |
I sing my message to myself or my kids all the time, often using Beethovens Fifth (“empty the dishwasher!” Instead of “duh duh duh DuH”) or Taylor Swift’s Blank Space as the melody (“So you wanna take a shower? Be sure to wash your ha-air”)
|
This is hilarious. I’m going to start doing this. |
