People are weird! I love finding out unusual things that people do. I love in novels or in movies when the characters do unusual, quirky things. Yes, quirks can be annoying, too, but mostly I find idiosyncrasies to be amusing. Share yours! Me: -I keep a set of 5-pound hand weights in the kitchen. While I brew my morning coffee, I do an “arm workout.” The movements I do aren’t a set routine or anything formal from a magazine or anything, I just mess around. I’m sure if you saw me through the kitchen window, you’d laugh. -I love figure skating, always have. When I was a kid, I would bust out “spirals” around the house, pretending to be Michelle Kwan. I will still occasionally do a spiral when I’m home alone. -I love to re-read books (or listen to the same audiobook) and watch comfort TV shows, but everything has a season. I’ll also “save” things (especially audiobooks) so that I can enjoy them in the right season and not get sick of them. It’s a special treat to allow myself a re-experience of a familiar favorite. My family/friends: -My husband used to go to college campuses a lot because he mom was a guidance counselor. He has T-shirts and sweatshirts from that time, which still “mostly” fit. He is surprised when he wears gear from a place he did not attend, and people come up and assume he did. It genuinely baffles him that if you wear a random Colgate sweatshirt, people are going to think you went there, and not UVA. -My dad used to work for a car company, and did labor relations/management of shift workers. He used to go in very, very early for months at a time. Even though he finished out his career in more traditional office roles, because he is such an introvert, he loves the morning quiet. He will routinely get up at 4:30 or 5, enjoy his morning, take 1-2 naps a day, and go to bed at 7 p.m. -My sister and I go out of our way to answer the phone in a weird way, from saying “Biiiiiiissssshhhhhh” to randomly rapping a 90s song to using another device to make an airhorn sound effect. Please share yours! I love weirdness!
