All the speculation about MLSN having to go to SY is wishful thinking from parents of Q4 kids who think their kid is suddenly gonna be signed by DC United academy because of this change.

It's a legitimate question; how will they fuse the two registrations together?

Do they really need to "fuse" the organizations together? They're not actually "together" now by just having the same age registration.

It's still the same overall pool of players under the organization. The birth dates of kids doesn't change.

But they will be recruiting from a SY system, which if history is an indicator will lean more heavily towards Q4 kids in a few years. How will they be able to scout for a BY system at that point, they will have to have an actual feeder league, or the discontinuity wouldn't be worth it. They just put out a release saying their scouting has been off, hence the change to quality of play, why would they make that aspect even more difficult?

I personally think many people are overestimating this as a problem so extreme that it requires alignment with lower clubs. MLSN will likely prioritize with higher clubs - academy level, international academies, USNT, etc (international alignment was the main reason MLSN was in favor of the change to BY in 2016, and are still against changing to SY now).

MLSN likely won't care what "system" they're recruiting from. They're recruiting players based on skill, physical talents, decision making, and development potential, and already can base that off the quality of MLSN competition. They can invite the kid to ID sessions or to practice with the team. A Q4 kid could be dominating at the RCL level but still not be good enough for MLSN. Again, the actual birth date of a kid doesn't change and MLSN will know whether he/she is good enough, whether he/she is older or younger for his/her rec team. MLSN can recruit a standout from a church league if that kid is actually good. And kids who are good enough to play MLS Next basically have to play good enough to play a year or two up already.

These are logistical challenges and valid questions, but I don't personally believe MLSN's hand will be forced by this. They still no how to scout talent and recruit. And they likely would've announced already.

I could be wrong. And I won't be surprised if they do or do not change to SY. But the logistical challenges or evaluation concerns from the change won't be the reason.

You mistook p2p MLSN for MLSN Academy.

MLSN Academy will remain in BY. No one argues it.

p2p MLSN will be the same cutoff as MLS2, which should be SY to address to reduce trap player issues and better college recruiting. If they stay in BY, both MLSN and MLS2 will lose a lot of SepQ4 players, which means less revenue to club owners.

BY crowds are from p2p MLSN and worry about losing their status quo after p2p MLSN switches to SY. They won the mental gymnastics for the next two months.

Academies and “Next” are the same league genius.

Exactly MLS Academies and MLSN P2P play the SAME league = MLSN Next league !!

So how could MLS Academies be BY and P2P be SY???

It doesn't make sense.

It doesn’t make sense for academy team beats my mlsn team 7:0 and 12:0 to another mlsn team. Players who join academy team already play up in their original teams.

What sort of weird logic is this?

Your IQ is too low to understand. Just shut up.

Just fill it in with BY already

Leave it up for a whole year to keep the suspense building.

Does anyone know if Kings hammer was getting kicked out of ECNL? Why goto to GA? I’m hearing many of their parents are not happy and now the commissioner has to come out to talk with families about why GA is so great.

I don’t think ECNL has to do that when they get GA clubs.

Don’t you mean fill it out for SY already or at lease BY/SY when the transition plan is released!😁

ECNL not changing until 26/27. To give clubs time to prepare. They don’t need that much time. But they are getting it.

If clubs are not allowed to start moving down Q4 players, how can they prepare? If they hoard Q4 players without moving them down, the roster will be big.

Don’t be surprised if ECNL clubs start using the new RL league in 25/26 as their new teams for 26/27.

That would make the most sense.

ECNL clubs will be taking inventory of the September -December players on every team in the club to understand the overall impact and if there are any gaps that need to be addressed.

This will happen after the 25/26 team selection cycle and they’ll analyze what the player pool will look like plugged into the future age groups for 2026.

It’s simply inventory and planning and not movement or exceptions. The reason it will take place after tryouts is because during the upcoming 2025 tryouts, the new 2026 age cutoff is not a factor. Example: a team moving from 9 v 9 to 11 V 11 will select the most talented players from tryouts and pull players up from the 2nd Team regardless of future age grouping. This may mean they pull up 3 new players and 2 of them will be eligible to move down next season. This ensures success for the upcoming season and encourages the wholistic development of talent for the entire club at every age level.

Next, the players eligible to move next season will be shared with the coaches of the 1st team and they will be asked to select players to remain on their roster. There will be criteria (talent based) and must be approved by the club director. The clubs preference is for the majority to move to the team that aligns with the updated cutoff.

Note: The above ask is only for our 1st Team Coach because our club will only allow you to play up if you are playing on the top team for your age group.

Once the club approves, the parents will be asked to confirm. It is very possible a parent’s preference may be to move down. Once the club has the verbal acceptance or understands the direction from parents on any exceptions they’ll know the number of anticipated open spots on each roster next year.

Coaches will assess throughout the fall and spring season and there will be opportunities for the future age group pools to train and scrimmage during club technical training sessions.

That’s a lot of foresight and planning for kids who could easily leave your program at any time. Next spring tryout window for most clubs is going to be crazy because most players will not stay at their current clubs they will go wherever they can get the best opportunity.

The clubs who start putting these teams together sooner rather than later will have a big advantage on other clubs.

What makes the most sense is make your best BY team but also make your best SY team and compete all next year together as well.
