UGA visit

Anonymous
Does anyone have tips for a visit to UGA? DC has become quite interested because apparently UGA has become extremely popular in DC.

Georgia resident whose kid has friends at UGA. Boom your hotel room on Athens early, especially during football season.

Above poster- if you come down to Athens, your kid can also visit Clemson, Emory, Ga Tech, Furman, and Emory-Oxford easily, if you make it a longer weekend trip.

Expect it take longer to get to Athens from Atlanta than you think. Atlanta traffic is no joke and those highways are crazy 10 lane behemoths.
It’s a big campus so be prepared to walk and/or drive a lot. Do a driving loop around the campus as there is more retail than in just downtown Athens.

Clemson & Furman are much farther away than are Georgia Tech, Emory, and Emory at Oxford (which has a sub 20% yield according to a study that I read recently, but cannot recall the source).

It’s an easy 1.5 hour drive from Clemson/Furman to Athens. We didn’t hit any traffic. Same can’t be said for Atlanta-to-Athens. Always allow extra time for traffic if you’re driving in/around Atlanta.

Agree, but Clemson & Furman are in the opposite direction of the other 3 schools from Athens. Your post suggests that one can easily visit all 6 schools easily in a long weekend.

Clemson and UGA are great to pair together, especially if you are driving. Some people will add UNC, again when driving, or UofSC.

For UGA, be sure to set aside some time to walk around the downtown Athens area.

Hah! My DD starting trying to decide between the two...until she got in somewhere higher ranked. I think she probably would have gone with UGA, primarily because of the weather.

Name the college. Not many better flagships than UGA.
