Have you ever successfully booked an 80 mile (approx 90 minute) Uber ride?
Will drivers take this kind of trip? This is from Myrtle Beach NC to Wilmington. 5pm departure (i.e. not middle of the night). Thx! |
I have, in the past, taken uber from Providence airport to New London docks and recently from the Miami Airport to the Inter Miami stadium.
The Stadium run wasn't as far but took a solid hour each way. In general yes, it's possible, but will be super dependent on the availability of drivers and their willingness to switch towns. |
They will, it will cost you but they will. When drivers accept they can see how far you are going so it may take a while to get a driver but you will get one going your way.
If you need to make a stop along the way, make sure you initially request for the final destination, and then add the stop. If you do the opposite, request a ride that stops at a nearby Starbucks so you can get caffeinated and then add on Philadelphia, it’s not fair to the driver who accepted what looked like a 10 minute ride he could fit in before school pick up. |
You're probably better off looking for a car service. It will be a bit more reliable in this case. |
PP here - there is apparently a shuttle service - https://www.mozio.com/blog/myrtle-beach-sc-to-wilmington-nc?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Obviously chatgtp answer so verify |

I have, but not your route. I was in a city serviced by a smaller airport for work, and my flight was cancelled so I took an uber to a hub airport about 90 miles away. Drivers in those cities commonly accept fares, because odds are they can usually find a return fare.
I am honestly not sure how common a Myrtle Beach to Wilmington route is. You may be better off calling and reserving a private car service. |
My friend recently took an Uber from DC to rurual Loudoun County -- she said it was cheaper than renting one of those smart-car type things. |
Yes, but order in advance. Did it from Milwaukee to Chicago. |
Yes. My parents no longer drive long distances and they take long Uber/Lyft instead. They've taken them from DC to Rehobeth.
People at one of my kids' colleges take them from the airport occasionally due to missed shuttles/late flights. It's a 2 1/2 drive. They are available but they're not cheap. There are always drivers willing to take longer rides. Better if you can book in advance but last minute is possible. |
And double the price. |
This is what Car Services are for. I would never trust an Uber...and I only take Uber Black when times are desperate and my driver is not available. |
In late January 2020, I took a trip to Colorado with my (then) 13 year old. When I landed in Denver, I realized I had forgot my driver's license so I couldn't rent the car I booked! We had to Uber everywhere, including from the Denver airport to Colorado Springs, and then from the visitor's center at Garden of the Gods to Estes Park (Rocky Mountains!) I was shocked I was able to get an Uber driver to agree! |
I swear there's a post weekly on the Loudoun Facebook group I'm part of complaining about a scheduled, booked Uber backing out from taking them from Loudoun to DCA.
I don't know why these people don't use a car service. Even if it's more than an Uber, doesn't not having the aggravation of your plans being upended outweigh the cost? The last one had a 4 PM Uber booked to take her and her family to DCA. The booked one canceled 15 mins before it was supposed to be there. She booked another and once they got there and realized it was to DCA, canceled on her. She and her family ended up driving and almost missing their flight. |
This. Private transportation driver is what you want. Unless you want to pay double or more the usual rate for Uber, and have a crummier vehicle to ride in. |
