Feeling full all the time on a vegetarian diet

Anonymous
Is it normal? I eat super healthy meals with a mix of grains, vegetables, have fruit, chocolate here and there, a yogurt. I am never hungry even in the morning and I’m downright stuffed after meals (normal portions)

If you're eating a good amount of protein and fiber that sounds normal to me. I've been a vegetarian for 40 years and feel full & well when eating properly (e.g., not eating my kid's chips or other snacks!).

Yes! It’s lovely isn’t it? Healthy and full.

Why is this surprising to you? Billions of people all over the world are lifelong vegetarians.

Yes, that sounds normal — ideal, even. What often makes people feel hungrier and even experience cravings are processed foods like chips and flour and sugar based snacks.

That's a bit of an overestimate.

How do I achieve this? I eat pretty healthily vegetarian but am hungry all the time, especially when I go for a run in the morning. I eat meat once or twice a year when visiting a relative on a farm and I do feel more full after meat.

I realize many people are lifelong vegetarians. I am not, hence my question! New feeling for me not being hungry the way I was before.

Normal. It's the natural fiber.

Unless one goes without food for days, they have never experienced actual hunger.

You have just learned to control your "cravings" OP.

I've heard this too and never believed it until recently. I started eating higher protein and fat meals and could easily go 16 hrs and not feel hungry. If I eat some processed meal like frozen pizza, I'm in the kitchen a few hrs later hungry for more.

When I was a vegetarian I was hungry all the time! And yes I ate a ton of fiber and protein and healthy fat. It just didn’t work for me.

Just like the old saying how you can eat Chinese food (American version of Chinese food) and feel hungry again an hour later.

That's because American Chinese food is FULL of added sugar, tons of it. Average plate of sweet and sour or chicken that's coated like sesame, etc. has around 1 cup of sugar, often HFCS, added to the sauce. 1 whole cup of sugar per serving! That's like drinking 4 cokes.
