That's because American Chinese food is FULL of added sugar, tons of it. Average plate of sweet and sour or chicken that's coated like sesame, etc. has around 1 cup of sugar, often HFCS, added to the sauce. 1 whole cup of sugar per serving! That's like drinking 4 cokes.
