Trying to compare what (if any) summer packets your ES kid received this year. We are a former Title 1 ES still figuring out what to do without summer school. I was shocked that compacted math sent nothing hike for the summer. We didn’t even get a reading log for ELA. |
Non-title 1. We got nothing. |
Some years we got something, others not but we never did them and did our own workbooks and stuff instead. |
There are a ton of bridge books you can get at Barnes and Noble. Review multiplication tables all summer, go to the library, go to museums, limit screen time, cook with your kid, have them build things.
You’ll be ok without a packet. |
A lot of schools post summer packets on their school websites. Google a few schools and you’ll find some! |
+1 Go to the library and check out book. Read them. That will be the best thing ever for your kid. Go on hikes. Have fun. We never had packets growing up and I went to college. It will be fine. |
Also check out private school websites for reading lists. |
We got one at our MCPS school but we aren't going to focus on it. |
Our Focus school has never sent one home. Our Title I school did but I ignored it.
Packets don’t teach skills. We learned that in 2020. |
I’m a teacher and our school decided not to send any home as the completion rate was abysmal-maybe 1-2 per class. It wasn’t worth the effort. |
This could be my school, or at least I teach at a similar one. I sent packets for winter and spring break because several kids (kindergarten) wanted them and were proud to show me when we came back. I didn't send anything for summer. The value of the packet was in staying connected over a short break. Summer is a time to enjoy and explore your world. I told families that the summer homework was to read every day, play outside, and have fun. You can duplicate those those math and ELA things on your own if you'd like. Teachers Pay Teachers has plenty of inexpensive worksheet bundles corresponding with specific Eureka modules. Do the public library summer reading challenge and log the minutes/books. Having it be something you take on with your kid is much more valuable than any printed up packet sent home to everyone. |
op here. I just bought the Evan Moor Skill Sharpeners for Math and Spell & Write. My kid loves worksheets and would ask her teacher for weekend HW this year to earn more “tickets” for their classroom “end of the month fun”.

There is no need for summer packets unless there are skills that your child needs to brush up on or skills/info they need to get start on to prepare for the upcoming school year. Explore the world and the many things offered in the summer(free and/or paid). Join the library reading program and read across a variety of books. |
Couldn't you just go and get the appropriate workbooks from a bookstore? Find what yiur child enjoys and/or needs to keep up on. Do a lot of reading, explore outside.
If your child loves worksheets then a book or two of those should suffice. ![]() |
