At a private school that charges $50K/year for HS tuition, what is the average HHI?
What is the threshold HHI for financial aid? |
| 350k got offered 0 aid. |
| In dc my understanding is that half or more of expensive private school kids are being paid for by grandparents. |
+1 spot on, not just dc. |
| The NYT recently had an article about households with incomes as high as 850k qualifying for aid at NYC private schools. I think it’s going to vary widely from school to school. |
I know two govt employees (yes still working) with a kid at a Big3 and they said they get like $20k. My guess is they make maybe $300k combined. |
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/03/nyregion/nyc-private-school-tuition.html For a $65K/yr tuition, discount "aid" until about $300K in income (pretax, I presume) per child simultaneously enrolled. Seems reasonable considering how the tax burden brings down the takehome pay. |
Same in NY |
Only one income and a Sahm. Sahm counts against us. Not sure by how much. |
Yep. |
This is exaggerated so parents won’t feel bad that they can’t afford it. It’s not a necessity, no reason to worry. |
Why should you get aid if one able adult in your family chooses not to work. So not fair to dual income parents paying full price. |
| My DC attended one of the big 3 schools, graduated in 2024, and received 95% financial aid. Our HHI is 750K, no mortgage on a 2.5M home in McLean. DC was a D1 recruit. |
| We made $250,000 and had $1 M NW, and schools told us to pay full freight for 2 kids. |
| $265,000, received 0 financial aid |
