What GPA has you child gotten into that you were surprised of, considering their low GPA ?
Ds has a very rigorous course load with Dual enrollment, and is going to a magnet school. I am asking be there are tons of smart kids, and wanted to see where he would stand. The gpa requirement says 3.0. and above. His is 4.2 weighted. He is in Varsity Track and not much else. Thanks |
Sorry I don’t think that will cut it. He should try to at least add some volunteering or a community job to his resume. |
They really care about service and their Ut Prosim essay. Add that to great grades. |
Your school would have better info and major matters a lot. But, my DS was admitted a few years ago with a 4.2 weighted GPA. Not engineering or business.
He had hardly any school activities but did have some long term service and I thought wrote a great response to the service question. |
DS got into the business school with a 3.98 weighted GPA and was test optional. The short essays really matter. |
High schools determine GPAs differently. You can't really compare those across schools. Your child's GPA will be looked at in the context of your school. They care a lot about the essays (demonstration of service and character), about course rigor, and grades. I wouldn't get too hung up on GPA. |
Where’s the Va Tech police lady? |
My kid is at VT. Economics major. He had a 4.2 weighted GPA, 1400 SATs, track, band, and community service from Scouts. Put work into the essays. Emphasize rigorous curriculum and AP courses. |
Parents in NOVA tend to underestimate how hard it is to get into VT. They treat it like a safety school. Every year on these boards it's the same story. I can't believe VT actually rejected my kid. Don't treat VT like a safety school, because it's hard, and getting harder, to get into in most majors. You will be applying to a major, and competing against that pool of applicants. The school is getting a new record number of applicants every year. 40k-plus applicants for a limited number of spots. |
VA Tech accepts kids by major. There is no real set GPA, it depends on what they apply under. Good luck to you! |
Apply to a random major like forestry or history. Engineering and business are out. If you want Big threé you might have to apply to JMU. |
how would that help? |
It would get the kid in big threé |
DS applied with a weighted 4.0 and test optional. He was initially wait listed but was accepted a few weeks later. He isn't going there, though, because of the high cost for out of state students. |
I forgot to add that he's a CS major. |
