How did you catch your cheating DW/DH's texts?

Anonymous
I feel like technology makes it easier to cheat but easier to get caught. DH forgot to turn off text preview when the phone is locked.

Thankfully I never saw texts/emails because they rarely communicated except to set up fk dates. And they used Skype or Internet voice…not their iPhone texts so there wasn’t a trace. Both married to so they didn’t want to risk it. It would have been horrifying to read the actual communication.

I got a confession when spouse was caught in a lie—but the affair had been going on a long time before this.

It’s just awful to do to a spouse.

What was the lie?

His reply to her sext popped up on her phone. She was in the other room, and I read the entire history.

Copied and pasted what I could and texted it to my number. Did not say a word. She always thought she was more intelligent, and this made her careless.

I got an attorney to draw up a settlement that was a great deal for me, and set it up so that she met me during an out-of-town business trip. I told her it was over and gave her a copy of the settlement to review and sign. She could not believe it, and reminded me that VA was a "no-fault" state (i.e., she would do way better in court). I agreed, but let her know that if she did not sign, I would drag all of the gory details of her affair out so everyone (her family, co-workers, clients, her AP's family, etc.) could see them.

She signed within a week after one minor concession on my part.

I never looked at his phone. I just had a gut feeling and I was correct.

Had a gut feeling. Knew his passcode because he thought he as slick. He’s actually kind of an idiot and didn’t know deleted messages are kept for 30 days. He put his phone down to go into the bathroom and I just thought, this is it. Picked up the phone, logged in, went to deleted messages, found the evidence. I walked in and confronted him on the spot. Incredibly, he tried to bluster and say these were “two year old messages”. I pointed to one and said, “this is from today”.

I handed him his phone and said, it’s over. Go sleep in the basement. He did, and it was.

Do all or most of you have your spouse's passwords? Never heard of this IRL

Yes. We share Apple ID too. He never texted or called her from his iPhone. I never thought he was cheating because there were no classic signs or unhappiness and the fact he wasn’t protective his phone at all.

I think every woman I know over 40 knows her spouse’s phone password. And we may not know exactly which password they are using for every app they have, but they tend to use the same thing over and over.

Our 12 year old got tired of typing in our phone passwords and put her Face ID into our phones. I had no idea you could put two faces in. We use our phones quite interchangeably.

If my husband was weird about passwords, I probably would have thought twice about marrying him. I think it is a bad sign.

He synced all our phones accidentally and everyone in our family received her text messages.

I’m an idiot too, I didn’t know that. How do you see deleted text messages?

Who the heck knows how long text messages are kept for anyway? And who the heck would care? I get the woman is mad that her husband cheated, but I don't think he was an idiot for not knowing how long text messages are kept for.
