1) my at home poop sample kit (in lieu of colonoscopy)
2) funeral home solicitation It's all downhill from here, isn't it? |
Yep.
Unsolicited comment- get the colonoscopy. Colon cancer is up. A friend of mine was just diagnosed with stage 4 at 45. |
![]() Same age here, and sent in my stool sample. Have yet to receive a funeral ad... |
Or you know, just got live your life and not dwell about random "old people" issues online. You're the same person you were the day before these arrived. |
This. Prepping and having a colonoscopy is no big deal. Buy yourself some peace of mind. In a weirdly related follow up, yesterday we got some bogus "extend your warranty" kind of mail, for a kind of car we've never had, and while it listed our exact address, it was addressed to Hugh Janus. I am not making this up. To be honest, it made me laugh. No idea why this happened. |
Yup. My mother was diagnosed at 65, which is older, but it was her first colonoscopy. I got my first at 40 because of her diagnosis, and had polyps. If you can get a colonoscopy, please do. |
Wouldn't it be more alarming if you got the funeral home ad AFTER you sent in your poo? Like, what do they know?? |
OP here. I hear you guys about the increasing rates of Colon cancer.
For now, my bowel habits are great - twice a day like clockwork. I eat lots of fiber, water, and exercise regularly. No family history of any digestive related cancers, including a lot of older cousins. The next time I'm due, I'll get the colonoscopy. |
You're due now and the insurance company is sending you the at-home poop sample as a cost savings to them, not a life saving for you. |
I don't mean to be a pain OP. I'm the poster whose mom was diagnosed at 65. She's an 18 year survivor and it was caught at stage 2. She had surgery but didn't need chemo or radiation. She had been completely asymptomatic. She did smoke for 20 years (age 20-40 or so) and had quit for at least 25 years. She did eat a lot of red meat. No genetic component. Don't know if those two lifestyle choices contributed but I'm putting it out there. If you have insurance, I'd get it done. It can't hurt and can only help. |
We’ve been there. Just a warning, sometimes you get invited to the funeral or cremation events like the timeshare sales. They invite you to a presentation for a free meal with it. We have not gone. AARP mailings are coming soon too. |
I agree, just get it. It's one night of suffering (and if you limit what you eat 3 days in advance, that one night isn't actually terrible), and then 10 years of piece of mind. |
Thanks for the levity someone was pranking you |
Funeral home solicitation?! Damn, that escalated quickly. Usually you get flyers for active senior communities first. |
I've been sending my stool samples to 1600 PA Ave |
